Liquid Filled Tire Pressure Gauge

Forget what it was, but I had (probably an old mower) that I bought from my brother in law.... finally needed tires on front. No big deal, I'll just buy some and do it here.... broke the bead and there was a bunch of Slime in there (the Green Slime). Also looked like it or something had molded a bit... was really kind of gross in appearance and then I had to wipe everything down to clean it up.

Wasn't a huge deal but my take on it is, it's more of a band-aid to hide an issue rather than to fix the issue. I'd rather just get a couple new rims for the flexwing, keep it clean and be done.

I used Slime in some tires on a finish mower as a band-aid and ended up leaving it in there for a couple of years. When I finally did replace the tires the rims were rusted BAD and if it had been much longer I do not think I would have been able to save the rims. Also my SIL had a JD 318 that the PO had put Slime in the front tires and the rims were also very badly rusted. After seeing two sets of rims in that condition after using Slime I will never use that in anything I intend to keep.

That is the exact reason I use the stuff from JD. I have been using it in mowers and tractors for a long time. The tires on the Kioti were cracked so bad that they would not hold air for 10 minutes. I decided to put the JD Goop in and they were still holding air 3 years later when I finally decided to replace the tires. Absolutely no rust and the guys at the tire shop said he wished everyone used that stuff instead of slime.

I would consider it more than a band-aid, more of good quality bandage that prolonged the use of my tires 3 years. With $200 tire replacement cost, I consider the JD stuff a real value.

It is for off-road use only. I would imagine it would be a bumpy ride in a car. Lol

Last time I checked liquid filled gauges were for pulsating readings where you needed to dampen the meter movement to keep the needle intact. I really can't see the need for checking your tires since the pressure reading is static. But doing it just to be doing it, can't argue with that. I find myself doing that with things like changing my oil or pumping up grease Zerks when it's probably overkill.

Thought I'd add to this thread instead of starting a new....

I'm looking for a LIQUID FILLED pressure gauge for my air tank....

I can find liquid filled (but so far, none that fit the constraints) but I also find some that might say it has "Brass wetted parts"

What I'm suspecting is "wetted parts" is NOT the same as "liquid filled"...... and if so, I'm wondering what it means to have wetted parts???

Motion Pro makes excellent gauges that are accurate. Not cheap but it will last forever

I have, over the years, collected five gauges. Two pencil and two cheapie digital and an expensive analog dial gauge model. The expensive one is used on the BMW motorcycle because of the crazy placement of their valve stem. It's not liquid filled. What are the boasted benefits of a liquid filled gauge supposed to be??

BTW - my expensive gauge is made by Motion Pro.

I run Rim Guard in my rear tires. If I use the 12 'O Clock high - puff of air in the stem to clear out any residual Rim Guard - take reading, technique. There is no need for expensive gauges.

I prefer to run the tractor out on a sandy portion of my driveway and make sure the rear tires make full contact all the way across the chevrons. Historic readings tell me this is right at 15 psi.
