Liquid filled tires

Kubotas are lightweight machines and really need the weight for traction, and you will cause more damage from spinning tires than weight related damage from Rimguard. If you are doing and loader work or ground engagement you will appreciate the additional weight. I have caused a lot more damage to turf by spinning the tires than compaction.

I have been "weighing " the different options for filling the rear tires on my 855 and have decided on -22 wind shield fluid and found a local O'riley auto parts store that sells 55 gallons for $119.00 with free shipping anyone have an idea of how much it will take to fill my 12.4 x 16 rear ag tires ? the fronts came foam inject filled from the previous owner and are heavy ! 037.jpg And can these tires be gravity filled or does it need to be pumped in ?

Why not get a tire shop to put methanol in them. They would probably do it for less than what the windshield washer fluid costs. Look at rim guards site they have a chart that tells you how much to put in them.

I have a L3200 and cannot imagine one without the tires loaded. They are very light machines and will still need more ballast even with the tires loaded. R4's should not leave much of an impression. I have R1's and they're not too bad on the lawn.

Thanks for the quick reply I will have to check on tire shop prices but I would really like to do it on the property and not spend a day moving the tractor!

According to a chart from Messicks, your tires hold 21 gallons of fluid at recommended fill level of just over top of rim. Now compare the cost of windshield wiper fluid vs mixing water with methanol or antifreeze to get to your desired no freeze factor. Remember that water in tires that is slushy is still ok to use. There is also an internet site that tells you the % or antifreeze to use to get you to certain temps or just look on a jug if you have some. Likely cost wise wont be a big difference but pumping in 21 gallons of windshield fluid vs a couple gallons of antifreeze and the filling with a hose will be a big difference.

thanks for the reply , I have to get this done asap while we are having warmer weather here and every dollar I can save helps with fuel cost and some of my land has a good slope to it ,the 855 is a great tractor but unlike many of the newer models you sit on top rather than "in" the machine and even running into a tire rut can be a little unnerving at times !:eek:023.jpg

I used windshield washer fluid. Bought it from the local auto dealership. They get it in 55 gallon barrels. Paid right around $220 for three barrels. Gave me 1300lbs of weight. Cheaper than any other choice. I bought an $8 drill pump and rigged up fittings to fasten a hose to the valve stem. Took a couple hours of putting in fluid, then letting out air. Warning!!! Don't let out all the air as the tire most likely will come loose from the wheel at the bead!!! Not good!!! Google a request for a chart to find out how much each tire will hold.

Just did a little calculation and 5 gallons of ethylene glycol antifreeze in 21 gallons of water should protect to about 0 degrees. About the cheapest I have seen off-brand antifreeze sell for is $8 per gallon so $40 per tire in cost for anti-freeze.
The windshield wiper fluid might be the better deal for lower temps. You could always use the leftover as your windshield cleaner fluid

Take the tires off and haul them to the tire shop.
