List prices??

I was going to barge in on the "same old question post" beacuse I live in the same general region (Upper Mighigan), but I am farther along in my shopping process.

From what I have learned on this site you should get 10-15% off of list. But how do you know what list is?

I'm looking in the 30 HP range. I am buying a 67ac farm, with about 4 cleared , which I'd like to do some planting in (discing or tilling?), the rest is heavily wooded, no finish mowing, bush hogging 1 ac apple orchard, logging (skidding really), and 6 months of snow moving (200+ in/yr).

I've been looking at shades of orange ($$ quotes including 6% MI tax), B7800 ($16,200) and LK3054 ($16,100) & CK30 ($17,700). Prices are tractor loader only. Considering the L3130 but seems pricey (no quote). JD dealer is no good and NH is 2.5 hrs away.

In the "same old question post" v8dave gave a link to MN State tractor prices. Are those the discounts they really give?? They would be awsome prices compared to around here.

I don't have any idea on the list prices, but as for your choices, I would eliminate the B7800, it is too light of a tractor for your needs. From the list of tasks you have, you need a larger size machine than the B7800, it is among the smallest & lightest of the 30hp machines and has the weakest loader of the 30hp tractors.

Take a look and get the price for the L3130, that machine out specs all the 30hp units I know of and the loader is an absolute killer, easily more powerful than anything else you are considering. As the L3130 is being discontinued and replaced with a newer machine, you might be able to get a nice price on one now.

The CK Kiotis are nice machines, keep it in your list of brands, it is a nice large frame and plenty of weight.

I would bypass the LK Kioti, it has a very basic mechanical shuttle, not the more advance syncronized shuttle transmission. I think you'd be happier with a syncro shuttle, unless saving money is the primary concern and outweighs convenience.

But if it was me, I would increase the tractor size you are looking at and bump up to a bare minimum of a Kioti DK 35 or a Kubtoa L3430. You have a lot of property for only a 30hp machine. There are many of us with 10 acres or less who are using 30 hp machines. At 67 acres you could easly use a 50hp machine and it would NOT be too large, especially since the tasks you are considering favor larger framed & heavy machines with plenty of horsepower.

Take a look at the State of Minnesota site. All the list prices of the various brands are located there.

The L3130 is not being discontinued. There are no changes to that I know are comming.

The discount given on the Minn. State website are called bid assistance. Normal people (even myself) can't get that pricing.

So the MN State site should just be used to research list prices. They don't actually discount 18%.

EDIT: Visiting the site I see it is actually an officail State of MN site not a dealer. DARN!

In about 2 hours I am going to pick up my new B7510 with FEL.

In additton to the tractor and loader I am getting 2 cans of spray paint (wait until you price a can of paint from the dealer!), and the 50 hours service is included, as well as a full tank of fuel (5.5 gal). Note that delivery and pickup and delivery for the 50 hour service was NOT included. I am just under 3 miles from the dealership so I get to ride it home!

Figuring the list price for the tractor and loader I paid 86% of list price. I used the MN website as a guide when I decided what to offer and ended up buying it for what I wanted to pay. The first price they quoted me was several hundred dollars more so I just told them what I was willing to pay and they accepted my offer.

You should be able to find the list price for what you want and then just deduct about 15% or 16% from that and make an offer. They will probably counter your first offer and you have 1% or 2% of "wiggle room" to up your offer.

I think Kubota has 0% financing for 2 years until the end of this year so if you aren't paying cash that will help you out. I tried to get them to give me a rebate since I didn't finance it but that was a no go. Said Kubota would not rebate for cash.

For the most part, the price lists (at least for Kubota and NH) are copies of the actual dealer MSRP price books. You can use these prices as list and figure you discount from there. You can also use these lists to get an idea of MSRP for all the available options.

The State of MN discounts are NOT figured into the pricing figures.

I stand corrected, I thought the L series was also being updated along with the B series. Regardless, I think giving the tasks at hand, an L series tractor would be a much better choice than a B series.

Hate to post 2 responses to the same message but I wanted to separate the price issue from what Bob said above.

Heed his words, he may have saved you from a costly mistake that I almost made myself.

I had made a deal a few days ago for a BX2230 with FEL and was waiting for the bar tires to come in so I could get it. In fact, I had already paid for it.

I kept feeling a little uneasy about it and couldn't figure out why. So I kept reading on this forum and looking at the specs on the BX2230. The more I studied the more I felt the gnawing sensation in my gut that something wasn't right.

Turns out that the 2230 is not the right machine for my needs. I finally settled on the B7510 because of the higher ground clearance and numerous other issues. I use it in the woods most of the time and the 2230 has too much underbelly exposure for my usage. The B8510 has almost twice as much ground clearance and nowhere near the exposure to damage underneath as the BX2230.

The BX2230 is a great machine, just not the right one for what I do.

Take your time, ask lots of questions, and listen to what folks here tell you. Above all keep providing information to us about what you are going to do, how you are going to use, and so forth so you can get some intelligent answers. The folks on this forum are absolutely wonderful and extremely knowledgeable.

And don't let some salesman tell you "If you don't buy it today that price will not be good tomorrow". If he'll take X dollars for it today he will take X dollars for it tomorrow.
