My tractor calls for Lithium EP1 grease. It came pre-lubed with their own label grease which is, to use a better term "clear". I like this grease because it doesn't make as much of a mess.

The dealer will not carry this grease because he has to order a case. I have checked all the local auto parts stores, no go.

The question is, will the Wal-Mart 98 cent Lithium grease, which is "clear", work as well? It doesn't say it is EP grease. They have a $1.98 grease that says EP, but it is almost black.

I use this grease for the mower deck spindles, deck wheels, 3pt lift, and drive shafts. I do not wait for the recommended lub time. I lube whenever I feel like it. After all lub is cheap compared to $10K for a tractor.

What do the experts say?

I thought all lithium grease was black. It that's what your tractor calls for, that's what I'd use, messy or not.

"EP1" Stands for Extreme Pressure. Go to the neigborhood auto parts place and pick up some Valvolene synthetic grease. Good stuff. Been using it on a bunch of stuff for a long time and have'nt had an "opps!" yet. BobG in Va

Thanks for the posts. Got some really messy red stuff from one of the local Cub dealers. Not to my liking. The other dealer won't even sell grease. If a dealer sells a particular brand tractor, they should have to make available the manufacturers recommended parts and lube products. In my opinion anyway.

I buy lithium EP grease from walmart in the dark grey or the red color. I like the red color but grey works too. The EP is much thicker than the buttery grease that the shop apparently used. The butter grease is often called amber in color on the label and is a lower temp grease. My walmart sells an amber butter grease but it is not EP. Just use lots and make a mess. Clean with paper towels and not a blast of pressure from water, turns out that the mess just gets bigger or falls on the ground where it will end up on your shoes. The wife hates it when I track grease onto carpet.
