I think comparing the toxins in snakes is like comparing us humans. We are all capable of mayhem. We have the strength and technology.

I'm not sure if it is true but somewhere sometime I heard and it's stuck. The venom of a rattlesnake and the bee are of the same time type. It's the dose that's delivered that's the critical difference.

I don't mind snakes. They have their purpose and they do it like only they can. I just like to be able to see them when I suspect they're around. I feel the same about spiders, bosses, bill collectors, the police, and of course, exwives. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just returned from a hunting trip in South Africa and had the pleasure of watching an eleven foot python kill a duiker. He either dropped out of a tree onto the duiker or hid under a bush waiting for it to go to the watering hole. I can't believe they can actually swallow an animal that big. The diameter of the duiker must have been 5 - 6 times the diameter of the python. You should see the teeth in the pythons mouth for gripping prey.

I also had a close call with a cobra. The guide and I must have walked within 3 feet of it as it sat under a bush. We both walked on each side of the bush, so we probably confused it, it couldn't decide which one of us to strike until it was too late.

Fortunately we didn't see any Black Mamba's. I hear that that's the one that's the worst.

Brent I have a Phobia of frogs and lizrds but snakes dont bother me as long as i can see them lol. I had a friend give me a B all Python abot an inch and a half thick and 42 inches long and it got out of its enclosure. Ill figure when mom finds it shell have one ever lovin hissy fit.
I was pushing in a barn for my exgirlfriends parents one time and a big king snke fell out of the loft across the loaders arms and controll valve near my right hand. U knocked it out of gear and looked real brave infront of girlfriend and parents as I moved up hill.
I think the wost snake encounter I've had was with several friends Canoeing down Bear Creek at the state line. We put in up stream about 10 miles and had 4 canoes and we all had a 22 target pistol each for cotton mouth/water mocasins.
Usually in good cases most just roll off the logs and snags and disapear but some flop out of low branches over the water. Well we got to the middle of a trip and were admiring a pretty steel truss bridge that had been abandoned for 30years and we got close to the bank. About that time my friend John and Susan got under cypress branch and this thud some followed by Susan and John screaming. The bad part of it some Cotton mouths will advance towards the victim. The next thing i see as we tried to get to them is Susan pulling up with the target pstol and emptying it into the snake and the hull of the boat. All nine shots some of which got the snake and all went through the hull. When we got there i took a boat hookand flipped the snake out of the hull and we scooted them to shore. Susan handled the ordeall by make John aware that he let the canoe get too close to shore and all. We had to end the at the next county road where i got on a bridge and caught a ride with a farmer. I came home got the truck and my trailer. A few weeks later we returned the trip and everyone kept Dead center of the creek lol.

My wife had a fit the last time I shot a snake that was in our swimming pool. It was out toward the middle of the pool and the water was 9 ft deep. There was no chance of damaging the pool with that .22 Browning Buckmark, but you couldn't convince her!
