Since Veterans Day is quickly approaching I thought I would share this info I recently found.
I have a step father that is a Korean War Veteran and a retired Police officer. he is also a diabetic and just had his leg removed. He could use some help financially with in home nursing now. So, I started searching what was available to him.
I found a little known VA. benefit called "Aid and Attendance" I won't go into the specifics here but ANY VETERAN who served during wartime ( and you will be surprised how long that time is) is eligible. The veteran didn't have to see action, just had to serve during that time.
It is a great benefit and could really help out alot of our older Vets.
SO, if you have a dad, granddad or even a neighbor who is receiving some type care they will most likely be eligible for up to $1,900 a month. Well worth looking into...

BTW- The spouse of a veteran is also eligible. Even if the veteran has passed..

Thanks for posting this.

I wish I had known about this earlier. I'm guessing that my late MIL would have qualified -- my late FIL was a WWII vet and she could not have managed without the financial support that my wife and I provided.

Thanks for that. My 90 year old Mom qualifies and presently lives alone. My brother lives in the same town, but Mom has no plans to move in with him or any of us four kids....she likes being independent. For that matter, my older brother is a Vietnam vet and has significant health issues. Right now he and his younger wife are doing fine, but I sent this to him for possible future use.

Thanks again.

Glad to pass along the info. As a Veteran myself ( Desert Storm) , I hope the benefit is still around when I need it.

Thanks for your service.

I was in the Coast Guard from 1965-1969 (Vietnam-era although I served in the States) and would qualify based on what I have read, contingent on the financial/medical restrictions. I haven't had time to study the restrictions, so I'm unsure whether I want to qualify.:)

Steve,
I believe you must be receiving some sort of care to receive the benefit. It is a bit confusing I know. I think the financial requirement is $80k or less. Here is a forum pertaining solely to this benefit.

BTW- Thank you for your service also, and don't forget to head to Outback for a free Bloomin' onion and a drink on Veterans Day !!!

Good information, I also did Desert Storm. USS Ranger did the first air strike and the last. Lost an A-6E aircraft. Pilot and BN paid the ultimate price... Their lives.

USS Ranger, AZC(AW). Spent 3 years on the Carl Vinson in Alameda, Chiefs Mess was closed for yard work. USS Abraham Lincoln was next to us and the Chiefs mess invited all the Carl Vinson Chiefs over for lunch one day.
