Made Master Chief on that ship.
Served nye-on 22 years in the Nav.

I also did that West Pac. I also went around the horn and I'm a Plankowner.

Back to the VA web site you linked. I'm going to spend more time looking, but the availability of the program discussed by the OP wasn't immediately obvious to me.

Steve

Thanks for that state link. That's really helpful. The VA link that gets you started is "Disability Pension." It seems they try to make things as complicated as possible on the official VA site and that's why there are so many other sites that explain things in plain language. I find most US Gov. sites to be complete, but very counterintuitive.

Agreed. This helps explain why so few folks are aware of the "Aid and Attendance" program.

My uncle is a plank owner from the Lincoln, Steve Langlais.

I visited the Lincoln when it was brought into Ft. Lauderdale from Norfolk. I think it was right after she had been commissioned. HOW that ship got into Port Everglades is beyond me. The Captain must have ruined his underwear.

What was funny is that the Lincoln was at the end of the pier. The road curves around various cruise ship terminals. When I was driving in you would see these big cruise ships above the terminal roofs.

Then we saw the Lincoln. WOW! :D She Be Big!

The turning basin at the port is not very big compared to the Lincoln. I bet the Captain was very relieved once the ship got out of that port.

One thing in my life I really regret was not going on the Dependent's Cruise on the Lincoln. She left Port Everglades and returned up to Norfolk. My dad was able to go but I could not get away from work. I should have told work to pound sand.

At some point I got a sweat shirt of the Lincoln. I still have that shirt. My oldest wears it now. The shirt shrank and it will not fit me anymore. That is my story and I am sticking with it.:laughing::laughing:

Sent the info in this thread to my family. My father was in the US Army in WWII and fought in the PI. He has passed by my grandmother is in a home. Hopefully this will help her.

Thanks,
Dan
