Lots of yards have that little stone that sticks up 1/2 inch above mowing height. The one that looks like a shovel would pop it out.....

Mutt,
Don't you just love those little small rocks that are just a little point that are sticking up in the way. I did the same thing two years ago at a neighbors. Scratched the top of one then on the next trip around I almost turned the tractor over /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifwhen the plow pulled it from under the tractor. It was about 3'x 1.5'x 7-8'. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

At the golf course I work at, we went around and dug some of those rocks that were sticking up in the fairway last summer. The ones you would hit with the mowers popped right out with a shovel, but the one that was almost visible and made us think about whether to dig it up or not turned out to be larger than the one you have there. It was all our Case 580M could do to pick it up with the backhoe and grapple, and even then it was one of those "back the dump truck under the rock since you don't want to swing the backhoe." Amazing what a little freeze/thaw will do to the ground.

Like you said, "...a shovel would pop it out." It all depends on the size of your shovel. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The first house I bought had a small piece of barb wire sticking up in the back yard. Decided to pull it out by hand and it started to unravel. Well, the "unravel" led to a small piece of wood which was lodged in there pretty good. So I pull the 4wd Bronco around and hook up to the frame. No go, truck just spins. So I take a shovel and start digging, only I don't like what I'm finding. Looks like more wire and posts below the surface. So I call the builder and ask him to bring over something to get whatever they burried out of the yard. Turns out they had buried the WHOLE FENCE LINE from the pasture they converted to a subdivision right in my backyard! Guess they had to put it some where! Man, that was one deep hole when they finished (and yes, they did fill it back in). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

it would probably be easier to strap some C-4 on that and blow it to hell /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How's the loader bucket doing? Looks like it's bending in the pic..

Hi Mutt

Last year I was clearing some ground and came across a huge rock. Thread. I have been trying to get someone to shift it since then. I had been to all the hire yards to find out if they hire large breakers. Those that did would charge me around £200 for a days hire, by the time they had delivered and picked up.

I tried to get a contrator with a larger machine to come and move it. Contacted two and none arrived so I spoke to someone yesterday who had been recommended to me and he said that he would go and have a look at it as he had a HIAB which could lift up to 8 tonnes. Imagine my surprise when I got back last night and a neighbour - who used to operate JCBs - had dug it out and moved it out of the way. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

He doesn't normally use a machine anymore but he just happened to be working nearby with a machine, he knew about the rock and decided to do a good turn. He wouldn't accept anything so we will have to find out what he drinks and get him a bottle. Full of course /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif .

I will post some pictures of the rock at the weekend if I get the chance. I am hoping for good weather so that I can clear the ground now that it is out of the way.

Yes, you spotted it! The top has opened up a bit allowing a little more capacity for dirt and stuff in the loader bucket. I grease the loader regularly and it still functions great
From the replies, others have found suprise bonuses in the yard.

A little rock? And I guess the Titanic was just a bad boating day? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My thought...... Make a planter, and mow around it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifAnything that big in the ground, deserves to stay there.
