I put two gallons of the cheapest antifreeze and water in the tires of my new B7800 shortly after I purchased it. You can get the adapter to fit on your valve stem at the auto parts, at your dealer , or on line. The trick is to put the antifreeze in an old fire extiguisher with a female hose attachment on the end. Put the antifreeze in first and then fill to the valve stem level only with water. What a difference. It literallly only takes fifteen minuter per tire with the fire extinguisher. Good Luck. shortrees

I take it since you're in NH that beet juice doesn't freeze?
I'm told also that CaCl is about 17 pounds per gallon. That can make quite a difference when you're talking about 60 gallons. I have to ask, then, how serious are the corrosion issues?

Rim Guard is good down to minus 35 degrees F. The high sugar content gives the low temp protection and the higher weight (1.29 specific gravity). You won't get 17 lbs/gal with CaCl, more like 10.

In addition to your question what to load with, it is important to load them properly to avoid undue tire wear and even transmission gear wear from overballasting. It is also different for 2wd and 4wd in order to maintain proper weight balance/ratios. Obtaining optimum traction includes a certain percentage of slippage that take these things into account.
I usually recommend thisTIRE BALLAST information and have used it myself. There are a couple of other links that discuss this topic. You might find this GALLONS-WEIGHT-TIRE SIZE chart handy also. This is a link to some of the tools you might want if considering doing it yourself. Napa also carries them. TOOLS FOR BALLASTING

That's helpful to hear. A little more research (using the term specific gravity instead of weight) shows me that CaCl has a specific gravity of 1.322 and a weight of 11.03 lbs/gallon. The tire guy I was talking to was talking of a 50/50 solution, so that might weight a bit more, but probably still not nearly 17 pounds, eh?
Finding rimguard locally may be a challenge. Is there anything special about it that distinguishes it from beet juice? Anybody ever try to get beet juice straight from a sugar beet processing plant?

I think that "beet juice" is just the colloquial name. I have rimguard.

Rimguard is not just straight beet juice, though that is the main ingredient. They add some other stuff to it (to improve it's corrosion inhibiting properties and lower its freeze point, if I recall correctly). Your thought of using straight beet juice is an interesting one, particularly for those who live in areas that are not extremely cold.

I found a place locally that can get the RimGuard. It's quite a bit more expensive -- $3.10/gallon if I take the tractor in to them. How much are you guys paying for it? Is that a reasonable/competitive price?
