Has anyone made a bucket for a FEL small like a backhoe bucket. Generally compact tractors can't dig easily in compact ground with a 5'-6' bucket even with teeth. I would like to make a bucket 2'-3' bucket with teeth for this purpose. Should I start with a standard bucket and cut and weld to it, or start from scratch? I've seen these kind of attachments for skidsteers.

There is an attachment called a "Rooter" bucket made by Kasco which is very much like what you are describing. It funnels down to about 1' at the nose, with digging teeth. Very heavy duty, including the price quotes I have received (>$1000).

I don't see why you couldn't do that. If you made it from scratch, you could also have it extend below ground level so to speak. If you utilize a quick disconnect, the bucket could be hung by trussed rods to leave the sides open for
the operator's vision.

I've been thinking about a similar project but in reverse. I'd like to build an 8', 10' or even wider aluminum bucket for handling light weight materials like mulch. I'd probably end up at the same weight as a regular bucket but with more capacity. It'd look ridiculous hung on a 30hp Kubota, but it should work.

That would be great idea have a huge lightweight bucket. I can see uses for both a small actual digging bucket and a large bucket for mulch leaves twigs grass clippings.

I would love one of these. It would hook right up to my Unihitch.

I had the same thoughts last year, and came up with my poor man's solution using plywood. You can see my embarrassing contraption in and <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/forumfiles/5-63503-HarvScoop2.jpg>actions shots. It was a "proof of concept" prototype, but you might enjoy reading the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=implement&Number=63500&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=large%20scoop&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=50&Old=allposts&Main=63500>whole discussion</A> that ensued.

That's sort of the idea or even in forward facing.
