Loader curl stopped working on left side

I was doing some work today with the Grapple and all of a sudden my loader was crooked. When I checked it the left side cylinder for curl was loose on the loader. The other right works and the bucket will curl, but no mater what position it is in the left side cylinder is loose and I am guessing has no power. Since the right and left are connected with a T, there must be input power so not a loose coupler. No leaks I can see.

I was doing some heavy work, and heard a metallic ping/snapping sound just before. I am guessing I damaged the cylinder. Does this sound right? Can this be fixed or do I purchase a new cyclinder?

If no obvious external damage, then probably a cylinder failure.

Not familiar with your cylinder, but most have an end gland either screwed-on or held by an ID snap ring. Time to remove the cylinder from the machine, get it on your bench, and start disassembly. Likely piston became disconnected from rod, either loose stud/nut failure, or material failure.

While I would agree with your assumptions of what the failure might be, I would NOT remove the entire cylinder unless I absolutely had to. It's too hard to deal with as a separate unit. I repair them on a fairly regular basis and if at all possible (loader bucket cylinders certainly qualify) I remove the rod end only. Remove both hoses and take the gland off/apart while the cylinder is still anchored in place. Take the rod, gland, and piston out, repair as needed. Put it back together in reverse order. Rarely does the barrel ever need to leave the machine. .

Harry is probably working with much larger cylinders than me! Last pair I did were on my Deere model 52 loader (JD 855 tractor), and doing it with the cylinders held in soft jaws on a bench vise was definitely easier than working over the FEL, since I could lay everything out on a clean shop towel laid out on the bench. But I could definitely see your point with larger cylinders, that you can't easily just pick up and carry over to the work bench.

Either way, make sure your loader is stabilized, particular if you've removed the loader from the machine, before removing or disassembling the cylinder(s).

Well, I did take the Cylinder off - not too bad, and didn't make too much of a mess. However, I think my problem may be different. After closer inspection I totally missed something - the bar accross the boom on the quick hitch is bent. Whatever I did bent that bar, and now the two sides are uneven. All the weight essentially is on the right. Called my dealer and I am going to have to bring it in - they will cut the bar, straighten it, put it back in along with another reinforcing bar along side it. Looks like I am out a week.

It sounds like one side became unlatched so both sides are out of time. It is a wimpy tube that connects both sides together to aid in attaching attachments. There are many threads and videos about this subject. You can also use the hydraulics to straighten the tube.
