I'm pretty new to owning a tractor with a loader (less than a week as a matter of fact). Is it normal for the hydraulic pump to whine while lifting minimal loads? Also, I see pictures of people pulling these 2" or 3" saplings out by the roots with their loaders. I have a TC30 with a 7308 loader and I have dug around half of a 2" dia. tree. I get the loader in under a good part of it and lift and it just sits and whines. I'm wondering if I may have a weak pump or something like that. Like I said, my experience with loaders on small tractors is little to none. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Trees are stronger than we give them credit for. The hydraulics squeal when the relief valve opens.

Try curling instead of lifting (more mechanical advantage) to pop the tree loose.

Will your loader lift the front of the machine off the ground? - helps if the tractor is in nuetral.

Will it lift a full bucket of dirt/gravel?

If yes to both questions, it is probably working OK. If not, you may want to check your hydraulic pressure.

I believe that if I take it all the way down, it'll lift the front of the tractor off the ground.

I know these trees are unbelievable. I was starting to think that they were concreted in, then realized that I have a fair concentration of red clay mixed in with that soil. Also, I'm thinking that a teeth bar will help as I can try to pop just the tree instead of the tree and 60" of soil.

I was just concerned with it being a new tractor and the fact that I just didn't really have anything but a larger backhoe to compare it to.

Thanks

I don't have one, but from what I've read here - a toothbar should help a bunch. I was disappointed with the tree removal abilities when I first got my machine. Much faster to use chainsaw & then rent a stumpgrinder.

A full size backhoe is about 5X the machine you've got now.
Do you still have access to the backhoe?

Try also edging forward a bit when you have the bucket under the roots.

A toothbar will also help with less soil disturbance on smaller stumps/trees

The best way to remove trees is to raise the bucket 4-5 feet and then push the trees over. This method uses the tree as a lever and helps break the roots. You can then lower the bucket and start working on the roots that are left. I usually work my way around the bottom until the roots are weak enough and I can then pop the stump or bottom of the tree free. If you have a really stubborn stump, try looping a heavy chain around it and use the hydralics of the 3pth to break it loose. Its much stronger than the loader.

Thanks, I'm going to give all of this a try, I have more trees than I can shake a stick at (I know, I've tried) .

I don't have access to the backhoe any longer. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm on my to the store in about 15 minutes to get teeth and shanks so I can put together a teeth bar. I found the shanks for less than $5 and the teeth for under $4, so I'm going to be getting off fairly cheap on this one. I'll let you all know how it works out. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
