I have an L4610 with an LA852 loader. I just rebuilt the up/down spool of the Husco valve (it was not floating and it started sticking). The rebuild turned out great - smooth up and down- except now it will not stay in float. It is almost like the weight of the control handle pulls it out of float. What part of the spool keeps it in float? Any ideas?

There should be a spring loaded detent pin that goes into a groove on the spool. These parts are easily lost when doing a rebuild. Do you have a exploded parts list for the valve or just tear it apart and put it back together like most of us would?

Thanks for the reply. I do have a detailed drawing of the valve (attached)and I think I put it together as shown on the drawing. There was a small washer in the rebuild kit that is not on the drawing and did not come out with the old parts. Not sure if it was in there by mistake or not. Anyway, which part of the spool affects the detent for floating?

the four little balls in section A of the valve are part of the float control.
They are up inside the cap at the lower left hand view of the pdf file.

The four ball bearings were in place when I assembled the unit. When I raise the loader control to lower the bucket, I can feel the detent and the bucket floats. I can keep the bucket in float, as long as I hold the control arm up. Once I release the control arm, it falls back to the neutral position. Isn't it supposed to stay in float on its own?

My B21 does not say in float on its own. I have to hold it in the forward position. I assumed this is how it is supposed to work.

My B21 also does not seem to have a float detent - to float, I must hold the lever forward - PITA. The operator's manual does not cover the loader controls at all and the loader section of my factory shop manual does not discuss it. Orange Tractor Talk discusses it, but they're obviously talking about a different tractor/loader design OrangeTractorTalks's Channel - YouTube :confused2:

Actually, there is a detent shown on the lift valve blow-up in the service manual, with no clear indication of what that detent is for.

If somebody can look at the valve and confirm the part number (from the name tag) I can tell you if it should detent or if it is just a feel position.

You may also want to confirm that the sleeve inside the cap is the correct way around - this will depend on the part number but you may be able to see the ridge on the inside in some of the service literature.

the detent mechanism is 4 balls energised by 1 larger ball pushed by a spring - make sure the larger ball in in the centre of the spool
