Kubota BX1800
I am considering adding a front end loader on my BX1800 (LA211). I don't see many BX1800 with loaders. Most are on the BX2200 or larger. Are there any issues with loaders on the 18HP BX1800 over the 22HP BX2200? I don't want to put the money into a FEL on the BX1800 if it is too small to handle it.

I don't have a 1800, but I have had a 2200 for 8 years. I don't think you will have problems with power. I never found my tractor needing any more power for FEL work; traction yes, but never power. I bought the 2200 rather than an 1800 because the primary use for my tractor was running the 60" MMM.

Will, thanks for the info. I wish now that I had purchased the BX2200 because I would like to have the 60" mower but at the time I did not want to spend any more money then necessary. The Kubota dealer says it will work ok, but just concerned I might not have the power I need.

with the loader, your first limit will be how much you can fit in the bucket. Your second limit will be how much balast you have and the third and final limit will be the weight of the object you are lifting....so don't worry about anything. Once you purchase the loader, you'll not want for a 2200.

One of the first things i discovered right after i bought my 2 bx1500s is i could have done everying i did with my bx23 with them except for the bh jobs.

I have a BX1800 for which I purchased the loader a year later. I've never regretted it. It's so simple to take on and off that that occurs frequently, even if only to pick up and carry something for about 15 minutes. Like you, I occasionally think perhaps I should have gotten the 2200 but I got such a good price on the 1800... And I doubt the extra power would have helped much with anything I do. One piece of advice - get a toothbar. Even if you rarely dig (I don't), the extra extension helps immeasurably with the amount of stuff you can carry, especially things like branches.

I have a BX23 with a fel.
I doubt I'd notice much difference if i had a fel on my BX1500.

Thanks for everyone's help and replies. I plan to stop tomorrow and order the FEL. The dealer advises that loading my tires would be enough ballast. Everything I read on this site advises it is not enough and I will need rear ballast. I have a 5' blade but I don't want to have the blade on as I think it would be difficult to work with in on.

Papparammer, since you have the BX1800, do you have your tires loaded, use a rear ballast, or both?

A few years ago I owned a BX1800 with a loader. Except for different engines that makeup the few engine horsepower difference (on paper), the older BX1800 and BX2200 tractors are near identical. In the years I owned the BX1800 I never encountered a situation where I lacked power mowing or with the loader.

Because of the short and narrow wheelbase, I would really suggest rear ballast when using the loader in addition to loading the rear tires.

Based on my experience I would not hesitate for a moment to put a loader on a BX1800. Just remember it is a subcompact tractor and has the requisite limitations.

Hope this helps.

I'd recommend getting a loader in a heartbeat. I just added one to my BX1500 and I only wish I had done it sooner.

However...

The machine became A LOT more tippy with the loader. I can't take side angles anywhere close to what I used to - even with a rear blade for ballast. I don't know what your personal preferences/habits are, but make sure you wear your seatbelt!

*That's why I like the loader on the BX23 and just the mower on the BX 1500.
The other BX1500 with a blade on the front and a tiller on back seems to feel pretty stable on slopes.

My dealer loaded the tires when he installed the loader mount; I wasn't in favor of that (soft ground for mowing), but he said there was no way he'd let me have the loader without loading them. Occasionally I'll wish that they werern't loaded but it really hasn't been an issue. I also have a couple hundred pound weight box for the TPH for the occasional time when I'm really picking up something really heavy but essentially the tires are enough. The loader is great and you will continue to find things to use it for.

Hi all, I was doing a search of the forums and came across this old post.

I'm wondering if anyone has more up-to-date pricing on a FEL for the BX1800. I found a BX1800 that I can afford but it doesn't come with a FEL. I'm trying to gauge if buying the BX w/o a FEL is cost effective, or if I should keep looking for a used BX with a FEL.

The more I research this tractor stuff, the quicker I'm realizing that virtually no one puts their prices on the internet, which is beyond annoying. Everything seems to need a quote, and I'm not interested in talking to a sales person to get a quote because I'm only in the research stage at this point. I don't want to be subjected to high pressure sales any more than a sales person wants to deal with someone (like me) who is not ready to buy and is on a fishing trip.

The advice in this thread is great (hard to find a used FEL, etc.). Anyone know current prices (ballpark of course) on a Woods FEL or Kubota FEL for the BX1800?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

The used BX I'm looking at is $5400. I've been searching for a long time for a SCUT (Kubota BX or MF GC are my preferences) with a MMM and FEL. In a perfect world, I'd like to be around $7k, but I realize it may be closer to $8500-8900. I'm also trying to get something >10 years old, too.

Edit: The BX1800 I'm looking at does not have a loader valve, either. I forgot to mention that.

A new loader is going to run about $3k +/- installed. Don't make the mistake I did... Buy a tractor with a factory loader. I had a horrible experience trying to piece together a factory loader several years after I bought the tractor and I didn't save any $$$.

VH,
I would advise you to talk with a local dealer for a quote and more. A good salesman will keep your name in mind if a used tractor comes it. He may also make you an offer you can't refuse on another tractor.
Remember, if you get a tractor without a loader, you may have to go through the expense to get it plumbed for a loader. And you may end wasting time and spending more money for something you could of bought cheaper--installed.
Good luck.

I looked at used kubotas for a while and couldn't find what I wanted-mmm and fel on a small one. They all had one or the other, and buying that stuff is expensive as you have seen.
I bought a new 1860 when the 1870's came out. Put down 1/2 the money and got kubota 0% financing for the rest.
I am a recovering mechanic and a perfectionist, so I dont like the idea of someone else working on my stuff, so the warranty doesn't appeal to me.
But being new I dont have to worry about some idiot having abused it (besides me), or putting wrong fluid in or whatever. Equipment lives a much harder life than most cars.
