I have a JD 1010 landscape loader. When raising and lowering the bucket it is real jerky. When dropping the bucket it drops real fast! What is the problem?

Welcome to the forum.
What can you tell us about the history of this tractor?
How long has it been happening? Oil changes? etc.

"dropping the bucket" means lowering the FEL arms, or curling the bucket while dumping?

I have had the tractor for years. When you drop the bucket it drops like a rock.No problem going up with it.Oil has been changed around a month ago. This problem started a couple years ago and slowly getting worse and now it is getting really bad.

No problems curling the bucket!

Does the FEL valve have regen? Is there a first position, and as you push more, go to the second position, and does it change speed and amount of force. Are you forcing the lift arms into float.

Sounds like an o-ring on the spool valve. ?? WAG

I have been a mechanic all my life but not too much on hydraulics. The control valve has just three positions.up,stop and down.By the way this is an old 1963 JD 1010 Landscape loader. They were just like the backhoe but no backhoe attachment on them.Hydraulic pump on front of engine. There is no filter on it and looks like there never was a place for a filter adapter on it.Its just strait thru to the pump and no screen or anything. The oil is really clean and was changed about a month ago.It was also clean when I changed it and no sludge in bottom of tank.

Any chance you can post some pictures? I can't seem find the loader detail in JDparts for this tractor...does the loader have it's own model number?

I am suspecting a bad valve...

I'd remove the handles and pull out the spools.... put new 0-rings on and see if that will solve the problem. The condition of the 0-rings may give you an idea if that is the problem.
Cheap and easy to try, just need to match up the 0-rings.

The valve block may have some tell-tale numbers on it too. And your friendly Deere dealer should be able to help with parts.
