LOADERS: do we expect too much from them?

I agree.. the first one blew pushing 3000lb bundles of railroad ties off an 18 wheeler.. had to drag the rest of them off w/ a chain.. I forget what I was doing when the second one blew.. but both had abrassive wearing on the tops.. the 3rd one blew when I was backdragging manure w/ bucket curled back.

None of the new hoses have busted.. it has always been an original hose.. the tractor has a little more then 1200 hrs on it. I have one old hose left.. one spare waiting.

Slowrev I don't think we give our tractors or loaders routine tasks to do. Most of us, myself included, tend to overdo it most of the time. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

PineRidge, How's that "supersteer" worked out? Way back when it first came out I debated for weeks about buying one of those. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I was just afraid of buying the first year of new technology. Sounds like it has worked like a charm for you! I'd be interested in your feedback on it. It sure looks like a super invention. I assume that NH has it patented so that is why I haven't seen it on others? Great looking rig by the way. I just left my local Deere and NH dealer and ragged them on why they don't have a cab with factory A/C option on their mid sized tractors. I told him that after 20 years of Deere and Ford (NH), I had to jump ship for A/C! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif He told me that in both his last meeting with Deere and his last meeting with NH, a factory cab was the hot topic at both meetings.

Dargo thanks for the kind words on my TC-40D. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am pleased with the SuperSteer option. I must admit that the first time that I had the FEL on my tractor it did take a little getting used to, but all that is behind me now and it's second nature to me. I do have to remind myself to turn a little shallower when I have my pallet forks on instead of the bucket cause things tend to slide off to the side real quick when you try to turn on a dime with a tall stack of merchandise on a pallet. Spilled a tall load today showing off to my wife, needless to say she wasn't too impressed with me or my skills at the time. But hey, nobody is perfect right? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A friend of mine JASTN70D has a cabbed TN70D New Holland and lives just down the road from me a bit. I must admit that when I was test driving John's tractor the hydraulic grapple, stereo, the way the cab cancels lots of outside noise, and the nice cool AC on a hot summer day made a believer out of me real fast.

Unfortunately my work load presently won't justify another tractor quite that large around here. But hey if and when I hit the lotto, or triple in sales who knows! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

most hose are designed and made to take the pressure developed by the hydraulic system for any particular tractor. they should not blow know matter how hard u try and work the machine, unless they are damaged or just plain old! AT least this is the way i see it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry, Pineridge. I'm late to this thread and didn't see your post until now. Yep, I've blown three hoses. Those short factory hoses seem to be much weaker than they should be. All mine have popped right at the crimped on fitting. My dealer made new hoses out of larger and a much better grade of hydraulic hose. I'm still waiting on the last factory hose to blow. That 72" bucket puts a lot of stress on those hoses.

Back to Bob's original question, I think a much narrower bucket would give me a lot more digging power. I think we are asking too much of our buckets to do some of the digging chores we tackle. After all, how much digging could you do with a backhoe if the bucket was 72" wide? Okay, that's a bit ridiculous, but I often think a well-designed 48" to 50" bucket would sure come in handy for digging with the FEL. If I ever get the skid-steer quick attach system, I just may buy a 48" bucket to see if it won't be a better digger than trying to shove that monster 72" wide bucket into the ground. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My LA401 on a 2710 works to all expectations. Sometimes I have to back an inch out of a pile but once I break it lose I can raise it to the hilt and take it anywhwere. I only have the 54" bucket and can load it to overflow with no problem with any material I have loaded up so far. If it was any stronger I think it would break something.

Ken,
That is my main point, the cheap hoses that the manufacturers are using on their equipment now-a-days is unsafe junk. Your dealer is apparently buying a better grade of hose for your replacements.
I am not pointing fingers at any particular brand, most all of them seem to be doing the same thing.
Wait a minute ! maybe it is the synthetic oil !!! Naw just kidding /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Plastic hoods (like mine) don't ding....

No. They crack or shatter. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As another owner/ operator of a JD 990 I have to agree that I expect more from my loader than what I am getting , the 430 loader is rated at 2500lbs on the 4xxx series but only 1500lbs on the 990 due to the GPM rating of the hydraulic pump size.... but I agree if I had that extra I could possibly get in to trouble due to the small size of the 990 and some of the 4xxx machines ,, if it was not for the wealth and sharing of knowledge here some of us would be in real trouble very quickly ..Thank You all for sharing and keeping us that are still learning safe ..

I've had my B7610 with 302 loader for almost three weeks now and I am very happy. Any more weight up front on my uneven terrain and it would be too unbalanced for my current comfort level. It has saved our backs many tons of work since we have had it and we have tackled some projects that otherwise would have been put off, or at best , taken much more time with much more labor. Just yesterday during a low deck building project, I was able to scrape off 8 bucket loads of dirt so that the joists would fit, saving a building crew a lot of shovel work. I have easily hauled 3 foot long cut sandstone blocks that otherwise would have been nearly impossible to move. The area around our house is hilly so wheelbarrows are a LOT of work. I really love my 7610 even with a relatively small loader and find a use for it almost daily.

Are you sure it is that much difference? The 4000 Ten series relief is set to 2500 psi, and the 990 is around 2250 psi - about 10% different. This is just from memory, but I think the 430 is rated to lift about 1200 lbs to full height on a 4000 Ten series machine and just under 1100 lbs on a 990, because of the pressure difference. The breakout force is 3000ish lbs, but I don't know if that is at the pivot pins, bucket lib, or where.

In practice, my loader feels weaker than the numbers would suggest, but then I'm not a very good judge of how much something like a bucket full of wet dirt might weigh. I was also pushing a big rock around that would have been about 3000 lbs (about a cubic meter in size) and I definitely could have used more power to flip it over and move it around.

Perhaps a bit off topic, but I also need more weight. With the 990 itself, loader, and all 4 tires filled I'm close to 5000 lbs, but I can still spin all 4 tires (R1's) at idle. Tears up the yard something fierce. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I think what I really want is the power and weight of a 150 horsepower AG tractor in a package the size of my 990.
