Hey Birdmayon,

I'll look into the car carriers. I got a quote of approx $5200 for a 6x12 enclosed. He 'claimed' that a lot of guys use them for heavy equipment, although I could add another layer of plywood. They are 16" on center frame. I'm not saying I believe him . . he wanted to sell me a trailer. I imagine the car type trailers would be substantially more . . which is scaring me already.

Out of interest, how many bikes could you easily organize in your 6x12?

MX,
Maybe it is a heavy duty 12' trailer? Mine was a single axle, available payload of 1800 lb but the ramp door was only rated for 1100 lb. Maybe some of the tandem 12 footers have a much hicher rating, I'm not sure. For reference, I paid just over $3k for the trailer I had. I'd imagine a $5k trailer should be built pretty heavy duty for that price.

Ask the salesman for documented ratings, not claims. Again, I'd still go for bigger than 12', you won't regret it.

Tried to edit my post but it wouldn't take for some reason....

I could only fit 2 sportbikes in the trailer. I've seen people fit 3 before but it wasn't pretty. I wish I'd gotten a bigger trailer, both width and length.

That's worth knowing. I went outside with a tape measurer and agree the 6' would be pretty tight. I have to fight against having my wife/neighbors want to send me packing . . so probably couldn't get too much bigger than 7' wide and maybe as much as a 14'. I think on the price . . . you probably just got a better deal. I doubt the extra $$ was buying much. I will try to get real specs if I continue. The salespeople I spoke with only could provide unofficial info beyond the basics.

Just for the heck of it I went to wells cargo's website, their tandem trailers (even the 6x12) will handle the weight of your tractor no problem (available payload of over 4000 lb). Not sure what the ramps are rated for though.

Yeah . . it appears all the tandems are good in payload, but some say they worry about the amount of weight on only four tires. In other words that those trailers are built for small items spread evenly. And nothing on the door. Perhaps I'll call the manftr.

My opinion would be look for a used 7X16 car hauler or a utility trailer (rails on the side) with brakes and rated for 5200lbs or 7000lbs. For around $1000-$1800 you would have your own and could use it when ever you want. If you had a trailer to use at will you would use it more than you think. Also trailers hold there value very, very well. I have a 16' trailer and with my 2520 with loader on and my rear blade it takes the whole length of the trailer. Enclosed trailers would be nice but, you would need a justify other uses to pay for the extra costs.

Here is my 6.5X16' trailer.

I agree with Newt92, 16' is the way to go.

In the Sarnia area there is TJ Liquidators that has great deals on these types of trailers.

If you dont care about a shiny brand new one check out Kijjiji online or the tri-ads - www.buysell.com for your area. There are lots of decent used ones posted online.

Good luck...

Mx,

Newt has got you on the right track. I've moved a 2210 with a 6x12 single axle a couple times and I don't like it. Twelve foot is tight enough that FEL and attachments on the 3ph don't work. The single axle with your tractor is worrisome too.

You've got enough stress in your life. Your tractor maxed out on a single axle going down the hwy a couple times a year doesn't need to add to it.

Joe
