it levels both ways. The seat switch works only when it is in gear I found out, L/M/H range, in N, no problem..

My 2002 model L48 has the hydraulic spill guard and it works in both directions. It helps alot with many loader uses except back dragging. It slows down the bucket float action to some degree.

I do not have a seat kill switch and would not have it???? Where they on earlier models or newer ones?????

Disable it if you must- I would. Many times I find myself just off the seat to see better or rotate it for BH work. It makes no sense to have one on this unit.

I bought mine out of state about 225 mi away. Not a huge deal. I do my own maintainance. Most people can do so.

I bought local, but did check the out of state prices...local was a little higher (but not much) for me...and I could not "avoid" paying sales tax...but I basically bought local on price, that price not being too different.

Let's say you happened to live near the "remote" dealer you are thinking of buying from, but after purchase moved to the area you live in now. Would you expect the dealers in your area to service your tractor then? Of course you would. And they would be foolish not to do it for you if the need came up.

Myself, if the price difference was worth it, I would go as far as to make up a story..."Well...we were in transition...two houses...bought down there...but now up here...I'm sure you understand..." if it came to that. Only if the dealer seemed like the kind to hold a grudge for a purchase from someone else...which is crazy when you think of it...

When is the last time you heard someone who was purchasing a car/truck have to justify where he bought it in order to get service?

I bought both my little tractors local, but it sure irks me that we feel like we need to kiss the local dealers cheek ( /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif ) if we expect to get service on a tractor we own, regardless of where we bought it.

I have several dealers within reasonable difference (maybe more for the brand I bought). If I bought from dealer A, does dealer B really care if I got it at dealer A or dealer Z?

I don't have a clue. But I do know if it saved me several thousand dollars to buy remote, I would buy remote.

This is especially true because for the most part the top tractors in sales numbers are also very reliable. You may never need dealer service for ten years, if you do the basics yourself.

You can beat this kind of thing to death. Are the local prices so much higer because the local dealers are inefficient in what they do? Does the manufacturer in question penalize the local dealers for some reason? (Certain not I am sure).

I say if the price is that much different, buy remote. Like someone said above, both you, and the dealer you are buying from, BOTH have to make a living and support a family.

Like I said, I bought local (and lost at a possilble sales tax savings doing so).

BUT ONLY BECAUSE THE LOCAL GUY WAS CLOSE IN PRICE TO THE REMOTE GUY!

I would give the local dealer a chance to match the "remote dealers" price(unless they were jerks). Even if they couldn't match the price it would still be worth a few bucks for the convenance.

Dealers make a good chunck of their income from their service dept. However, warranty work is almost never profitable. (why would they lose money on a machine they did not sell?)
If you upset a dealer to the point that they refuse service on your equipment, Kubota can not force them to do so.

BTW did we ever find out if this is a L48sg or not?

Thank you everyone for the replies - you guys are great, I'm learning by the day from all of you /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Lowdownbooty, yes, this dealer's models have the SG, this dealer is very large and does a volume business - the tractor I am inquiring about is right out of the crate.

As lowdownbooty and KennyV have recommended, I am indeed going to give my local dealer a chance to respond to the price. I went to the dealership today to do just that, but he wasn't in today, so I will go back tomorrow

Just so everyone knows, the price difference is about $10,000 (yes, I wrote ten-thousand dollars). The out of state guy is including this amount in attachments and the L48 for about the same price all the local dealers (about a 75 mile spread from me, the closest being 6 miles) want for the L48 alone. That's alot of money!

I live in New Hampshire, so no sales taxes here, which Jim Becker and KennyV wisely pointed out.

If my local guy will not significantly lower their prices, I will buy from the out of state dealer, and will consequently ask the local dealers straight up if they'll have a problem servicing me. Even they, if they are honest about it, can't blame me for saving 10 grand!

MadReferee, where in New Hampshire are you - I live in Rollinsford. I would like to inquire about your dealer.

I am in the Milford/Wilton/Lyndeborough area. The dealer is Chappell in Milford. The Milford location deals mainly in Kubota and heavy construction equipment with New Holland being a small part of the business. Their other location in Brentwood specializes in New Holland. They may not always be the cheapest but they do have a well stocked parts dept along with a large service area and a super service team. I have always been treated well by them from sales to parts to service.

PBRC, PM me for that, it's actually alot closer to you than me. I see you rescue pitbulls, and for that I have a great deal of respect - I've resuced several and currently have a pair of pitbull mixed breeds, one that I rescued from the SPCA before they put him down. Tony

I have to know what their price is /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif!! I know list price on the L48TLB-sg is $41,000!! If the remote dealer is 10k below that it might not have a backhoe /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif! If the price and machine are legit then I would take off work right now and get this deal before they realize what they've done!

Keep us informed...
