With a name like Sepp... you know he has to be Austrian!
His farmstead is where my godfather is from... I will have to ask him if he knows the family.
Watching the video... Sepp has managed to walk a thin line... it is not an understatement about permits and approvals and he as managed to pull it off.
Have a lot of relatives there... even though I'm a third generation born Californian.
It all started from a small family owned Dairy farm several hundred years ago in land Salzburg... the Sound of Music could have been based on family history except for being rich.
Several of my cousins have organic certified farms and grow much even with short growing seasons... they have glass houses that really extend production... plus pesticide free and spring water make a good combination.
Still others raise cows or pigs or sheep or goats... one makes goat cheese that is served in the finest 5 star restaurants...
Buy local is very much practice in the countryside...
Customers will typically only buy meat from a local farm and often buy the calf or pig when young and have it farm raised... I still remember shopping in the grocery stores and bringing home eggs and meat and being told by family they avoid store bought whenever possible... just never know where it came from or if the animals were humanely treated... as in free range.
Much of what is considered going green or low impact agriculture is exactly how these family farms survived for generations and with high productivity.
I always enjoy my time there and like to explore... oldtimer rallies and open air museums are things are really enjoy...
In honesty... the cities are nice... but tourist draws are not what brings me back.... A Hilton or Sheraton is much the same the world over... an immaculate bed and breakfast in some high mountain valley on land that's been in the family for generations gets my vote everytime.
