Lock 'n Lube

If you can't operate a regular grease zerk coupler, you might reconsider owning equipment that requires greasing. :) :)

Then what would we go and on about on grease threads! :D

I always use the pistol grip type guns. Bought a new gun and added the lock-n-lube. Main reason I bought the new gun was to use the grease type specified in my BH manual. Discovered the grease or lock-n-lube don't perform as well as my old Ford spec moly grease and old standard tip gun do. I might load a tube of moly grease in the new gun and give it another try one day but maybe not.

One problem I found with the lock-n-lube is if you hit a fitting that won't take grease you play heck getting the fitting to release. With the standard type fitting all you have to do is loosen the tip by screwing it out some.

Greasing my backhoe is time consuming. I need to start doing it every two weeks. Last time I spent 3 hours because I had to knock several pins out to get the grease to flow. Probably won't have that problem since I changed back to my normal grease and if I do it more than once a month like I was trying to do. Sometimes a fitting won't take grease if I have the pin loaded on the fitting side. First thing I try is to take pressure off the pin by repositioning the part I'm greasing.

Univerco now makes a relief valve that you can open to relieve pressure in those situations. I've never tried it (or the Univerco's lock on coupler), but the show a demo on their web site.

Here is my line up... only using one of them now and yes... the one with my LockNLube on board. I spent way more than I should have for this little contraption, but it makes lubing pleasurable. Yeah I need to get a life.

Clean, but you missed a spot. :D
Ha ha... yeah if you look closely on the orange one, I got a leak at hose connection. Winter is coming and this is when I clean all my tools. Garage time!

The G-Gun allows the back pressure to be bled off by lifting (instead of pushing down) the pump lever with your foot. Once bled off, the Luck and Lube comes off easily.

I'm reviving this thread to let everyone know that Lock-N-Lube has a new XL coupler that is much longer than the original. It should be able to get into certain grease fitting areas that the original one couldn't, such as some u-joint zerks. But the length will likely make it harder to fit some zerk locations.

It's even more expensive than the original, which was already expensive. But I'm gonna pick one up anyway. I love the original one.

Hmm. Need to measure depth to my mower spindles...

Luckily I can reach all my zerks with the standard length LnL. But if I couldn't, I would probably pay the premium for this tool. If it works as well as the original and no reason to expect it wouldn't, it money well spent to make greasing your zerks pleasurable.
