Does anyone know who sells lockboxes for tractors and equipment?
We(work) have lots of heavy equipment and tractors ect and would like to put lockboxes on everything. That way you would only have to carry one key instead of several dozen.
I would like it to be able to lock with a standard padlock, keyed alike with shop and gate keys ect.
I thought we could make them but probably would be cheaper to purchase them.
I did a web search and can only find combo's and ones that take there own keys.

Thanks in advance

Knaak has plenty of boxes that would work for you. They are pricey, but are also probably the very best boxes available. They also make the weather guard brand truck boxes, also high quality. I have a craftsman, but I've been on plenty of jobsites in high crime areas that have withstood attempts to break into the Knaak Jobsite boxes.

The State Department tought me that security is just a matter of time. There is no such thing as a secure lock, just a time limit on how long it takes to get through it. We had ratings on all the locks on the embassy. They were all in seconds!

Good luck,
Eddie

Sorry Eddie, I did not explain myself good. I was talking about a small box to weld to each piece of equipment to put the keys inside.
If you were running a dozer, went over to the excavator, you could just carry one key, unlock the lockbox, get the key for that machine and go.

How about checking with a car lot, to find out who the company is that supplies the small lock boxes that go on the car windows for the car keys. They might have one that would be made so that you could weld it.

Yup, this was going to by my suggestion as well.
Those little lock boxes that dealers use would seem to be almost perfect. The next ? would be how to mount it. Maybe something as simple as drilling a hole in the back of it and bolting it to the machine somewhere.

Take a look at this gadget. It may well do just what you want with out trying to figure out how to mount it.

If you go to Home Depot you can get a combination lock box that was made for a door knob like the realtors use. They are inexpensive and can be put on the steering wheel or welded to the machine for that matter.

Jameco Electronic Surplus has these boxes:

The SUV box has worked well for me. The combination setup is better than a lock for the box IMHO.

Hope this helps

You might consider military surplus ammo cans. They are strong, cheap, watertight, probably the right size, and readily available; however, you may have to install a hasp to make them lockable. Some may be, but I don't recall any lockable ones.
