Locked up Rear Wheel

When I leave my YM1601 sitting for 10 minutes or more, the rear right wheel locks up. It doesn't matter if the brake is engaged or not. Mashing down the differential lock gets it unstuck. Any ideas on what causes this? Any idea how to fix it? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It may be a brake spring broken and the shoe is binding on the drum.

Can I get to that through the plate up and to the front from the axle?

Yes, that would be where your brake adjustment rod connects (from the pedal). The brakes would be where I start, and if they look ok you may want to jack up your tractor and spin the rear wheels and check for badly worn axle bearings.

That just causes the differential to overcome the problem. It does sound like a sticking brake.

Yeah the diff overcomes the problem, but it sounds horrible and I don't want to think of the damage it is causing. I will take off the wheel and check it out today and see what I find. The rear alxe bearing appear to be OK. Hopefully something simple /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Rear end gear tooth chipped or broken.

Could be brakes but they normally won't be as noisy as you are describing.
I would check them first but I doubt thats the problem.
