This past summer my tractors left front wheel would lock up about every 4 feet. I immediately put it in the garage and it has set since i had other pressing projects. Today I finally had a chance to tear into it and prior to taking off the wheel I spun it backwards and could hear some squeaking coming from the left front when spinning it back wards. I took it apart and when I got access to the Bevel gear I notice some rub marks on the inside of the gear case. I noticed a lot of play in the bevel gear and the gear case cover. this leads me to suspect the bearing under the bevel gear is shot or the cover where bearing goes has gotten worn. I think i know how to get the bevel gear off but want to know if anyone has attempted it. i think i need to remove the top bearing and the then bevel gear should come off. i took a few pictures and tried to shoot a small video but not sure what format it needs to be to upload. In one of the pictures you can see where it rubbed in the top corner and it also had wear down near the bevel tractor.jpggear shaft. Im pretty mechanical inclined and usually try and fix stuff before farming it out to a repair shop. Im new to this forum and appreciate any help or advice. Bevel gear.jpg

The part I believe is bad is item number 3 under P73-02 or P73-05 bearing race way worn. I believe i can pull the bearing number 4 with a bearing pulley tool. Has anyone ever attempted this repair?

That bearing you mentioned is most likely bad. You'll need to pull the bearing #4 out, then the bevel gear should come right out and it will expose a retaining clip #5 and the bad bearing #3. Keep track of those shims (#8-1 and #7-1) and try to not loose them. Also, change the seal while you're at it. Chances are it got damaged too.

Here is a video of a similar issue. It's not exactly your tractor but the construction is really similar.

You can upload the video to YouTube and then post a link. That is the way most people do it. I think you are on the right track.

Ptsg beat me on posting but he is correct.

Inner bearing disingrated. Bearings completely busted in half. Going to replace both inner and outer bearings and the seal. I can’t find a good number for the seal that comes up on the internet. I found bearings. That retaining clip #5 was in two pieces looked to be made that way. I also need a part number for the gasket that goes on the case.
Thanks for the info on posting videos.81831BB8-C138-46C4-84E6-E99D06D0BD52.jpeg780D65F5-5194-4411-AA14-48991261AC9A.jpeg57B64CD4-0664-414A-B322-AA81487F8536.jpeg

I would go to a bearing supply place and see if they can get you a good quality bearing. They should have the seal as well.

On the gasket, it may not even be available as Branson has gone to using a sealant for almost everything. You could make one out of gasket material if they do not offer one.

high temp silicone gasket maker is what currently being used to make these hub gaskets for the front axles

It looks like the balls stopped turning and were ground down by the race. Is there a lot of metal debris in the housing?

Sealer would take less space between the halves than a gasket. Would that change the number of shims that are required?

Does anyone have a good alternate number for the oil seal item 6 in the book FE81070000A I’ve researched image.jpgimage.jpgthe internet using numbers from the seal TC6JA appears the size is 35 x 52 x 3 mm as those are the numbers on the seal also it has 10.5 / 12 it’s a NAK manufactured. I measured with a ruler the ID is 1.5 inches and OD is 2 3/8 inches thickness is 1/2 inch
