Loctite Red 680. Is there a substitute?

I have a Pt-180 and had to take apart the brush cutter and put it back together. Terry at Power Trac told me I needed to use Loctite Red 271 to connect it to the drive shaft but that didn't hold so I have been using Shoo Goo which has worked fine this year before finally giving way.

Blackwell said the correct product is Loctite 680 but no one carries it except one place that said they would special order it with a cost of $31.00 (they don't carry the smaller tubes). I can't even find it on the internet. Is there a generic or different brand that is designed for shafts and bearings? Thanks.

Here is a Link to the specs on Loctite 680. At least you can compare any possible replacements.
I was able to search on "Loctite" & "680" and got the loctite site as a result.
I can buy loctite at the napa store in a local town, they seem to stock different stuff then the napa stores in OKC. It may be a privately owned store as opposed to a Napa company store.
Maybe try them in your area.

Remember this, your connection at both ends has to be perfectly clean and dry.

Thanks Piedmont. I have tried every automotive store in Chattanooga as well as hardware stores. I will probably get the $31.00 bottle and at least have it for future use. I was thinking there might be a similar product designed for the same thing. I wish they had just drilled a hole for a bolt to hold it on. That would have been simple enough.

Loctite 680 is a special blend of loctite. There are several loctite's on the market. 680 is expensive. Grainger.com carries it but it is high priced and for special purpose use on shafts etc. Go to their site and do a search for loctite. that will bring up all types they sell. You can read about each one and its uses. maybe you can find something cheaper besides 680 that will do what you need it to do.

mcmaster.com has Loctite 680 in sizes ranging from .5ml at $1.52 up to 250ml at $119.86. Go to the website, search "loctite 680" and the correct page will open. You can then click on the part number for the size you want.
