Has anyone thought of or built something along these lines?

While the log forks/grapple has a log or logs, why not position it over a table or trailer and buck it into rounds without having to get off the tractor?

It would need a few arms/thumbs to hold the log/s, also a series of tongs (or pairs, about 8" apart) on the bottom and about six harvester bars or the like. The forks will pick up, say, 8' log lengths and buck into foot long rounds.

It would not be a cheap build, but is it possible? Not only would it be limited by my budget, but also the lift capacity of the FEL which will be around 3000 Lbs, and I suspect such an implement would not be light. Also, perhaps the hydraulic pump will limit how many bars could be run?

Any ideas? Anyone done such a thing? Would it work?

Can you be more specific, perhaps with images please?
Are you talking about an excavator head or a stationary unit that advances/debarks, and bucks logs?

Or something else because if it's what I think you are referencing, I can't see how it is anything like what I'm thinking about for a tractor FEL.

I just buck them up on my forks, no grapple. If they are logs I purchased in eight foot lengths I use the forks to put the logs on a stand I made to process wood.

I can think of about 30 thou$and rea$on$ why not that :)

Also, don't want to split it, don't want to cut and advance the log to cut again (unless doing so is ultimately cheaper to build and not too slow), and don't want to be restricted to small log diameters or carrying just one log at a time.

The pump is not going to kill you,but the horse power required to run the hyd. harvestor saws will be large. Seven saws cutting at once would make for a big draw.

Perhaps three pairs with only one pair running at any one time?
