Anyone here know of a way to rig something to load and unload large logs on a 16' trailer ??

Sure, a tractor with a backhoe or front end loader, and a set of log tongs. Tractor size needs to be sized to the size, and weight, of the logs expected.

Someone on this site has a dedicated logging trailer with a hydraulic grapple. Perhaps someone will remember who it is.

Sure do. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You have no bio filled out nor have given any clue as to what tools or equipment you have that can be used (other than a 16' trailer), so I've no idea what to suggest to you. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Help us out here, just a bit please. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Size of logs?

I loaded 12' long, 20" diam. white oak logs on a 16' trailer with nothing but a snow blade on a tractor. Also, with two fence stretchers. Also with a FEL. Also with a winch and a U-shaped pipe arch arrangement on the rear of the trailer.

Baileys sells a series of trailers with a built-in grapple. Not sure if there are any large enough for your logs. They start with an ATV-sized unit and move up from there.

I've just moved around 30 logs, mostly 18 feet long and anything up to 28" diameter, out of my wood with a logging arch chained to the pto. I got them piled at the logging deck by hauling them up a pole ramp with cables and a comealong. I'm sure I could work the same system with a trailer.

This isn't something I'll be doing a lot of so I rigged the system out of what I had. If I was doing it on a regular basis, I'd invest in some equipment specifically designed for the task.

I'm not looking for anything to load logs. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I have several ways to get them on the trailer, as mentioned.

'tpost' is however, but hasn't given us much of a clue as to what he is needing to do, and what he is limited in doing. If only a few logs, doubt he wants to buy a 'built-in' grapple. But we don't know what equipment that he has available to offer him any help. I'm just guessing, but expect he isn't interested in spending any bucks to get them loaded.
