Log Splitter Add On Idea Help

I have a 3ph Log Splitter and although it has a 5" I-Beam, it doesn't have any way to keep the log from rolling off the beam while I am splitting the piece. I need to fabricate a rack system so when I load the log, it stays centered on the I-Beam. Looking for your suggestions or pictures of what/how your splitter is set up. Also, I would like to fabricate a rack system so that after the piece is split, it doesn't fall to the ground but lays on a rack to help me from having to bend over to pick the pieces off the ground. Your design ideas/fabs (pics) would be appreciated, Thanks, Eric

Do a Google search for Super Split. I have one of these splitters the table works great on it. Here's a picture of it. I can take some close up shots if you like.

Has many homebuilt splitters pictured. You would have to do a search to find the threads. Most of them have log lifts and in/out feed tables.

Also, depending on which side your wedge is one will make a huge difference. I have had both and I like the wedge on the opposite end of the hydro. The wood will almost explode off when the wedge is on the hydro side.

I'll post the photos tomorrow as the splitter is in my barn now. The wedge on this unit is at the table end.

GoodGuy, This splitter has a 1.5 second forward stroke and 1 second return. It is faster than anything I have ever seen or used before. I can split wood at least 3-4 times faster than my 3pt mounted hydraulic splitter. The time cycle is 33 seconds on my hydraulic splitter. That makes this unit 12 times faster than my hydraulic splitter. But I am not that fast to keep up with it. A friend of mine has had one of these Super Split's for 15 years. He swears by it and sold me on getting this one. I can split a full 8' pickup load of wood into small pieces in less than 30 minutes. I hope to shoot some videos soon of this splitter in action just to show people. The website really needs to update their video. Maybe I could sell them one.

Here are the pictures. Ask away if you need any more information or pictures. The whole table is attached to angle iron that is bolted to the lower rail of the I-Beam. The second picture is where my trailer tongue bolts on at the end of the table.

Wood can "explode off" with the wedge either on the ram or the end of the armature. I much prefer the wedge on the armature as if the wood does fly when splitting it is going away from me, not towards me. I have had splits fly as much as 6 ft. Another advantage is that the split wood has moved a bit away from the operator's position vice stacking up right there.

The only advantage to 'wedge on ram' that I have seen is the ability to use the ram to pull a stuck block off the wedge. The only commercial splitters I have seen with wedge on ram are the ones designed to tip up and use vertically. In that design there is no choice, the wedge has to be on the ram.
