Kubota BX22
I have a new BX22 that I would like to attach a log splitter to the 3 pt hitch. Northern Tool has one for sale, but I do not understand how the hydraulics need to be hooked up. Here is the wording from the Northern Tool website:

Three-Point Hitch Log Splitter for Tractors
Powerful splitter fits class I and II tractors. Includes 8 inch high wedge, valve mount, heavy duty slide, cylinder mounts and 4in. bore x 24in. stroke cylinder. Has 4-way control valve fittings to hook up cylinder and valve. An excellent buy! If you have a closed center system tractor, choose a closed center valve. Do not use a detent valve with tractors that have hydraulic couplers on return line. Does not include hydraulic hoses or quick disconnects.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Does my tractor have enough hydraulic flow and pressure for this machine to work? Do I need any other valves or just the hoses with the correct couplings?

Thanks in advance!

Bob-- A forum search will yield a lot of material on 3-point splitters. If your BX has rear hydraulic remote connectors (does Kubota call this "power beyond?), the you just hook it up. If it doesn't then you either need to do/have done some plumbing, or I suppose run extra-long lines to a couple of your FEL hydraulic connectors. As to the power issue, I have one of these which works fine on a TC33, but I wonder if the flow on the BX would be enough lower that the cycle time on the piston would be unacceptably slow.

As a reply to rmorgan's comment on the BX22 hydraulic capacity. You could equip the log splitter with its own Hydr. reservoir and a pto driven pump.

I was hoping that someone had some experience with the BX22 to know if this was necessary or if the tractor hydaulics would be enough. Also about what valve I would need.

I'll search the other forums and see what I come up with.

Have a great day.
