I wanted to install a log splitter on my 790, when I purchased it about 5 years ago the owner of the dealership (a very hands on guy) told me all I would have to do was take out two bolts under the seat and install the couplings and I'd be ready to go. At the same dealership another very knowledgeable guy told me I needed to buy the $500 scv to get the access ports and went into a long winded discussion of open center valves that was way over my head. Any experiance on this subject?

Your best solution is the JD Power Beyond kit. It provides a flow of hydraulic pressure at the rear. Typically used for backhoe, but if the log splitter valve is open center it will work just fine. You might want to compare the pump flow to what you can get in a self contained splitter. The 790 doesn't have a very high flow which could mean slow cycle times.
