I've been wrestling with the decision to buy a 3PT splitter for my New Holland 1725, 1998 model year I believe, 4WD, manual 9 X 3 transmission with no rear hydraulics. I recently used a splitter on a mid 1980's Ford 1720 (with no PTO pump) and I was satisfied with the ram speed. ASSuming my GPM is greater than the 1720's, I don't think I need to spend the extra money for a PTO pump unit. My plan is to purchase the Northern 3PT unit for $430 and have some lines made to plug into the loader ports, bungeeing the loader lever over so there is flow and the splitter's valve (open center?) will work normally. Dealers are telling me this is a bad idea, I'm guessing because they want me to have them add rear hook-ups for $600-$700, a hydraulic loop for $200-$300 or a unit from them for even more. I'm not sure if my valves are open or closed center. Does my plan seem fesiable or not? I would like to keep this around $500. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
