Have you found what may have caused the gear to break? If there is any loose metal in the system it could lead to another breakage.

WOW Think I got it!!!! fired it up and couldnt get but 200 psi on forward stroke, retracted it full and detent kicked out like it should, pushed handle and held it and got 2500 psi instantly! this tells me pump is good, piston is good----------it's gotta be that "bullet proof" valve !!!!!!!!!! correct????

UPDATE: For those who care, It was NOT the Valve, heres what I did, I took valve off and plugged both ports and got needed pressure in both directions, so valve was good and also pump. then I replaced valve on cylinder leaving forward stroke port open and with motor at idle moved piston all the way out and fluid flowed freely out port, viola, bad piston!!!! The weird thing I found was that the piston was good in 1 direction (retracted) but not in both. Anyway I ordered a new cylinder from E-bay (tuff-tool) for $236 shipped, it now can split a 4x4 in half on edge! Prince Mfg. was a major part in helping me figure this out........there valves are BULLET PROOF!

mrjim0214,

I an so disappointed you did not have any faith in us.

Do you mean that what I said did not make any sense at all. Re-read post 2 and 9.

Next, check the cyl for bypassing by starting engine and extending the cyl. Then remove the retract hose from the cyl, and place in a bucket. Now, try to extend the cyl some more. If the cyl is bypassing, fluid will flow from the rod end port.

Its not that, between ya'll and someone on the phone I gotter done, what confused me was a cylinder that can hold pressure in 1 direction and not the other, considering you are pushing fluid against the same seals. I've attempted to disassemble the cylinder, it's got a internal cir-clip that appears to be varying in width, I got some of it out in pieces but it now seized up and I can't move it anymore.......Ideas?

Anybody have any idea who made this valve. And can the pressure and dent valve be set. It's bypassing at 2200 now. Also the dent will pop out sometimes.

I don't know what kind of filtration you have on your splitter but a piece of that broken seal may have made it's way back to the pump causing the pump breakage.

It has a Wix filter on the return side. It didnt have a bad seal.
