Log Splitter makeover, with log lifter

/ Log Splitter makeover, with log lifter #11
This is really a timely thread! I have most of the 'stuff' ready. What's left is the hydraulic items. I'm thinking, for a log lift, I plan on using a swivel 'crane' affair with a 12V winch and cable. Plan to hook some tongs to whatever is too heavy to roll and let the winch pull it to the splitter, pick it up and then I can swing it in place. Also plan to have a wedge with power up/down wings. Would like to do a four way split if needed. We have one of those outdoor woodburners for the house and it can take some fairly long pieces. So I'm thinking of a 5x36" cylinder. All these are in the 'planning' stages. ANy comments good/bad are welcome. Thanks for the ideas so far. I like the idea about the wedge opposite the ball hitch. There's merit to the wedge facing the vehicle to be loaded, though, too. Decisions, decisons!

Sounds good so far mrcaptainbob, If I were to change anything on mine, it would be to exchange the 4x36 cylinder for a 5x36, and maybe go to a 16gpm pump. Mine will split great with just one wedge, but I don't think it has enough umph to use a 4 way.
