log splitter off FEL pump

But is this a detent valve? Not if it has ti be jerry rigged!
My opinion is you have given less than good advice!
But so be it!
As for using this valve to use large stuff, yes it will work, but.... no one depending on it for production would do it for longer than it takes to get the right valve!
Flow restriction will take care of that quick!
And just because you can should you?
Lots of people here want to be right probably knowing that it is bad advice but don稚 care.
Only someone with more time by boatloads is going to use a valve designed for a FEL on large cylinders as mentioned. If it paying the guy to hold that lever, it wants that cylinder moving at the fastest speed it will not 5gpm rated valves!

I was just hoping to help you understand by comparing the different valves. But unfortunately, you don't understand the difference.

Flow rate, size of the ports, direction of flow and the spool itself is exactly the same in a two spool valve having one spool spring to center and the other spool with detent.

A detent valve is pretty much the same as the curl spool being held with a bungee cord, instead of the cord, it uses a couple balls and spring to hold it in place.

I'm still trying to understand why are you still beating a dead horse...

Keep in mind a detent valve (log splitter style) releases when pressure builds to release point set by system pressure, using bungee cord does not give that option....

Yeah, but we were talking about the loader valve.

My pea sized brain says the loader valve will feel no ill effects. The Log Splitter valve will handle any releases that are required. The loader valve is simply providing flow. Based on the theory that there is no pressure until there's resistance. No different than the loader valve passing fluid thru to the 3pt system or rear remote system, which in most cases it does all the time.

Only pressure actuated release detents will release,,
My 584 IH has a detent on the control going to the quick connects on the rear of the tractor.
If you move that lever into the detent position, the oil will be supplied to the outlet as long as the lever stays in the detent position.
That was used for things like hydraulically powered centrifugal pumps that sprayed herbicides, etc,,
That detent has no pressure actuated release.

Hmmmm ,, come to think of it,, those outlet ports on the back of the tractor would power a log splitter valve,,
no bungee cord needed,,,:D

That's exactly how I run mine. Although my detent is just a piece of wire holding the lever back. :D

Wow you should never ever use welding wire ONLY bungee cords...........

Please explain how type of restraint of control lever will make any difference. Spool held off neutral position via wire or bungee doesn't make any difference. I seriously doubt hyd pressure can over power bungee cord to return spool to neutral position.

I think Peter was attempting to add humor to the thread,, hence the yellow smiley face he added,,

AND on a similar note,, in a thread like this,, caution should be used,, if thread is used to hold the handle!!

Or a couple of wraps of baler twine, low cost, easily replaced.
