The slash piles left from out pre-commercial thinning three years ago have not much diminished! Looks like heck! The terrain is difficult and often the trees are too close together to get a pile out intact even if you can get at it.

We burned brush since the sixties and now need a permit, although free for ag purposes, but the fire chief tells me you have to put it out, if a neighbor complains. I told him, I thought that rather stupid, and he just said that peoples health comes first! But anyone can have a smouldering outdoor furnace!

Already, the logger has made improvements. The stacks of pine logs are gone....and he has clear cut over 15 acres. It is astoundingly fast. We had rain today so it is muddy and messy. I'll be spreading lots of grass seed this weekend. And hopefully getting someone in there to spread a "shlode" of lime next week. Next weekend is the planting of trees. I don't care if I have to push debris to the side to dig the holes, They are going in. I can slowly clean things up afterwards.
