i have an old 1970"s mtd splitter and the ram goes out real slow and no power at all.i put a new 11gal. 2/stage on it and no difference at all.when the ram goes out it is real spongy,you can kinda push it back alittle and it kinda springs back & then continues forward very slowly the stops when it hits the wood.ther is no way to check the fluid(30wt HD oil) in the cylander.only a little weep hole plug at end of cylander.when i opened it real foamy oil did come out.can you help me...pleaaase.....Dj

Welcome. Perhaps post this in another forum such as rural living and you will get more replies. I'm not a hydraulic expert but you probably need to replace the fluid as it sounds like you have air in there and or not enough fluid.

Post in Hydraulics.
Make sure there is fluid in the reservoir and the suction line from the reservoir to the pump is clear.

You really need to put a pressure guage on it to see what kind of PSI you are developing. That will do wonders when trying to diagnose hydraulics:thumbsup:

I am betting the seals on the piston inside the cylinder are bad, and they are bypassing fluid...it needs to be rebuilt.
