Long 560 DT
I have a long 560dt and I’ve been trying to figure out what is causing my engine oil to continue to over fill. I bought it and changed the engine oil(which was completely over full) and the hydraulic oil. With both engine and hydraulic oils at the correct levels and having run the tractor for maybe two hours total the engine oil is again almost completely full. It doesn’t seem like that hydraulic oil is pumping into the engine. So I’m wondering if anyone knows if the injection pump can leak/pump fuel into the engine oil. Is it possible? Or is it more likely the hydraulic oil is getting into the engine? It just doesn’t seem like the engine oil smells conclusively like diesel fuel so I’m a little lost.

With the transmission oil measured in gallons and the engine oil measured in quarts you may see little drop in transmission oil before engine is over filled. It's fairly common for a seal in your hydraulic pump to fail allowing transmission fluid access to the engine. The easy fix is normally replacing the pump. Some may be repairable but I always just replaced the pump about every five years or so.

Mr Rookie the sure fire way to determine which one is leaking is an engine oil test. That would remove any guessing although Mr Roadworthy obviously has dealt with this before. I have not. I do know you will ruin your engine if not corrected quickly

thank you both you for your reply’s! I’m still thinking it’s fuel contamination mainly because the engine oil seems to be thinned out and the oil pressure light comes on at idle.(I changed the oil when I first picked it up and the oil light would turn off within seconds of starting up with fresh oil). Now it’s turning on when it returns to idle. So I figure I need to at least reseal the injection pump and possibly the lift pump. The injection pump already leaks externally so it could use a going through anyways. There is a small amount of water in the hydraulics(the hydraulic oil becomes milky on the dip stick after rolling around for a bit)and I don’t see any milk in the engine oil. I just hope not too much damage was done while it was operating with bad oil in it.
