Today it probably looks a lot like it did in 63. Katrina did a lot of renovation and housing removal so there is a lot of vacant land again.
The old cast iron light house at the intersection of Porter ave and Hwy 90 is still standing and so is the old White House hotel at the intersection of White Ave and Hwy 90 (the road leading from hwy 90 to Keeslers Gate).
The hotel was in the process of being remodeled and brought up to hurricane code when the investors ran out of money a couple of years ago. It has been partially dismantled, so it doesn't look any worse now than it did before the hurricane.
