Long term fence project.

Here is a picture or the screen installed. I cut the head off of the bolts, drilled holes in the plate and welded in place. It was to hard to weld from inside and welding on the outside works better in allowing the screen to lay flat.

After grinding and polishing the bolts down the box is now complete. Time for a test drive picture is a little blurry. Sorry I can't find my pictures of the light installed. Its just a 150watt halogen light. It tryed several others but the halogen gave me the more light for the size. The inside of the box Rustolum gloss white so it reflects the light well.

And final picture for today is pictures of the mounting to the arch top section. I used a hex drive pan head bolt to keep it from being so noticable from the ground.

Time for the final batch of pictures. This batch is of hanging the arch top. My Massy wasn't up for the challange. I had to rent an all terrain fork lift and a larger welder for the job. Arch is 15ft 8inches to the bottom cross pipe.

Time to hang the gate. Its 18ft wide and built with sched 10 2 7/8in od pipe. The gates weight is probably around 200lbs but with the 18ft length its got a lot of leverage on it. The hinges are rates at 2000lbs. Should hold nicely.

Project done! All painted and ready for power. The latch side was about 2 inchs short. Not sure how that happened but it still worked out. I used the famous Harvey horse shoe latching system.

Nice to see it all come together!! That last picture sure puts it into perspective. That was one BIG job to weld all that fence together!!

Yes Eddie, the plan is to do it again. I will be changing it some but I did like the look it gave to the place. We hope someone else likes it as much as we do and is willing to by the place. It was a lot of work but thanks to mother nature it was spread out over a long time. I had bigger plans for the gate but things didn't work out. I will try to post a picture of the mockup later.

Here is the mockup picture of what I wanted the gate to look like. The picture is kind of tilted. Standing on the trailer and taking it didn't work out so well. It would have had the Texas cut out of plate and the circle would have been the same 2 7/8inch od pipe.

James - that is some fantastic work .... and such a nice gate going into ..... the pasture?.. Not a bit of overkill there huh? Guess a squeeze gate was out of the question. ... I haven't kept up much - you found a place down south? Welcome to the neighborhood.

Hi Mike. I've been working 65+ hrs a week sense it started. I expect that to be the case until mid summer. Haven't worked that much O.T. is a long time. Its great right now with the family still in Princeton. The money won't last forever so I'm going to take advantage of it. It'll finance my next fence. Haven't had time to look for property much. I'm staying in an rv park in Georgetown. As for the fence and gate we did have plans to build on the property. It already has dirt work done with laser leveled pad sites for a house and a shop. Its now up for sale. The place will make a nice home site for someone and not a bad return on investment for us.

I'm sure OT can be tough but as you said - the timing for it is really good. Good luck on the transition - lotsa stuff to deal with there. Wife will be in Round Rock on Fri -- I'll be up country on Sat -> Mon --33 months and all this commuting to the country will be over and done with.

This may be a dumb question but here goes: How do you notch out the end of a pipe if you are going to weld it to another? The letter "T" for example; how would you "round out" the top of the verticle piece so the horizontal piece would fit snuggly against it? I hope you can understand what I'm trying to ask.
