Hi Muhammad,

Was wondering if you had found a solution for the extra wide pages created by long url links when using Netscape? I know in the past you've gone into some messages and converted these long links into hyper links but you can't catch all of them and I don't want to bother you by reporting them all the time. I've been running into a lot of them lately and it's kinda driving me /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif.

Thanks- Dave

Dave,

I don't want to answer for Muhammad, but Netscape has not been fully compatible with the rest of the world lately... even the 6.11 {current version, I think}.

Different weird idiosyncrasies will occur with Netscape... have Internet Explorer in the wings the next time something occurs using Netscape... quickly switch out to IE and 99.9999% your problems instantly disappear...

I loved and used Netscape for a few years, cut my eye teeth on it... but I didn't have the time to keep fiddling around for work-around solutions... I finally bit the bullet and now use IE instead...

Hi John,

Yeah, my biggest problem is that I've resisted biting the same bullet /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif... but I hear you! I also have IE on my machine here at work and I often switch over to it when things get weird with Netscape. It's a shame because I've always liked Netscape and my little personal crusade to avoid using MS products whenever possible makes me feel better /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Our IT dept. head is a Mac guy and if he gets his way maybe I'll switch back to a Mac someday. But as you probably know better than me, that opens a whole other can o' worms when trying to communicate with the rest of the world. Maybe Mac's OS X will address some of those issues. We'll probably switch all of our Macs to OS X early next year. BTW, I'm pretty proud of our small but growing company. You might want to check us out at: http://www.ecornell.com/ .

Anyhoo, thanks for the tip! I just thought maybe Muhammad might have found a good work around for this particular Netscape issue. It's really the only problem I encounter on TBN.

Take Care- Dave

Dave,

Sorry, I don't have a solution to your NS URL problem.

But thanks for the URL for eCornell. It is very nicely done web site! I especially liked the survey.

I guess you just started and will be adding many more courses? I am most interested in MBA-level courses, even the chance to complete an MBA online. Is that in the cards for e-cornell???

All the best,

In the future, we might have a feature to shorten long URLs as they are posted. But right now I can't say when we'll get to it.

Hi John

I also used to prefer using Netscape rather than IE. I work in IT so spend a lot of my time on the web during the day and a small amount at home. When we were having problems with the BIG TWO browsers a colleague suggested using Opera. I was doubtful at first but have become a total convert. You can open lots of different windows all on different web pages and there are some great mouse shortcuts. You can download it free from http://www.opera.com/ . One of the best things is that it is fast .

Regards

Andrew.

Andrew...

Thank you!

I'm testing opera now as I type... so far it has extremely fast screen refresh...

I noticed in your profile...U.K....

Hey, I am a collector of a few Sterlings... over on your side of the big pond, I believe they're called Rover 800's with the Acura/Honda powertrain. See if any service manual's are still available for an '89 and '91 models. I tried to order them last year... but I can't hold my breathe any longer... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

I wish BMW approached me... when they sold the Rover Group last year for $1.00... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I'll keep you posted on the Opera...

Thanks again Andrew... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Hi John

Glad that you like Opera. It isn't without a few minor bugs - what software isn't - but I find it much easier to use than the others. Have you tried any of the mouse shortcuts yet? If not you can enable them by going to File - Preferences - Accessibility and then check the Enable mouse gestures box. To find out how to use them go to Help and look up Mouse Gestures.

Regarding your Sterlings. Is it the full manufacturers workshop manual you are wanting or will one from a third party vendor do? The reason I ask is that I have used Haynes manuals in the past and found them to be very good. Obviously not as comprehensive as the original but they show you how to do most jobs. The best thing is that they are much cheaper. Try this link to look at their web site. Haynes

I can have a look round for you to try and find the original one if you would like, just let me know.

It wasn't a bad deal for $1, you could have bought the company, got your manuals and then given it away./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Let me know about the manuals, If I can help in any way only too pleased to./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

I use a wheel mouse and sometimes go f-a-s-t... I was changing pages back... forward... zooming in... zooming out...

Then I discovered it was all in the wrist and mouse sequence buttons pushed by accident... {for a moment thought software bug} Still learning slowly... but becoming convinced quickly... So far this browser is the Nuts...

I do have the Haynes and also third party manual photocopied by Atlantic British {from my back yard}... I want the original electrical manuals{about 9-12 British lbs.(sorry can't find symbol now)} at least and pushing it for the full shop manuals {about 25 lbs.?} I had ordered them over a year ago from a Rover dealer in England... gave my credit card number {U.S.?} and been waiting ever since.

The main reason for failure over here was the severe/intermittent electrical designed in problems... without the proper paperwork {or lots of hands on experience}, they can be a nightmare to work on...

So, I'll be happy with whatever you find... let me know and I'll send you a check.

Thanks again Andrew...
