5030,

I'm glad you are familiar with Ducati's. I'm not sure what they were thinking design wise with the 999 series. Gone is the single sided swing arm, and a strange front nose. Technically they are improved, but I will never buy one. I have rode many, but cosmetically I'm turned off...shame..and many others feel the same..
The Cub garden tractors and CUT's are designed differently, and still retain the quality that Cub created back in the early 60's...anyway no need to convince you... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Duck:

The Italians are like the Brits. They have their own ideas of styling and function and really don't care what market demands are. I knew a fellow years ago that had a Ferrari 350 GT Berlinetta Boxer V12. A beautiful car capable of 190 mph. Trouble was, the shift gate was like a farm tractor, not a sports car. That was a Ferrari trademark, long throw and slow.

5030,

Never met an ugly Ferrari ..nor a ferrari I didnt like....The same will not hold true with Ducati's 999. Much rumblings about the design, sales have dropped for that model. They will be forced to look at the design soon enough...toss the designer of that model out on their **** !!

Anyway I like Cubs a lot...tough little machines my 125 and 3204 which pulled my trailer loaded (approx weight 3000 Lbs)
with no problem. I'm not affraid to work my machines...
I like Deeres as well, my 4100 gets a test every weekend by digging stumps out with the FEL. I clear all angles around the stump. Its not easy but it works..no one gets babied !! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Tell me it ain't so! just this spring I bought a 1529 cub for my 10 year old boy to do his portion of our mowing. tell me I didnot spend that money on a yellow and white "yardman" . My plan was for him to cut with this untill his knees protruded in front of the headlights. I wanted him cutting with that kawasaki untill he finishes grad school.

The Cub Cadets are not just yellow and white Yardmans. They are the premier line of outdoor power equipment offered by MTD. I use a Cub Cadet 2166 and love it. I have put on about 80 hours since getting it back in 2001. It has performed very well. It is a pleasure to use. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif It has had no problems except a simple ground wire came loose. Cub Cadets are tough machines. Now the older Yard Machine sitting in the shed, that has had to have an overhaul already! It is only about 6-10 years old. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif And just the last time it was used, it poured smoke out of everywhere. I had no idea what was happening. The smoke was blue. I figured what ever it was would burn off. After a while it did. But I still have no idea what caused it to smoke like a chimney. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I know I was just being a wise%$&/@. I'm happy with this little cub and believe they compare very well with the L100 Deere line. I also have had very good experences with Kawasaki engines, Now for my question I've had some thoughts about dis-engaging the feature that turns the mowing deck off when the hydro. is operated in reverse. why do they do that? how do I do it?

I'm not sure why they have to have that "feature." I guess someone can back over someone else and chop or mulch a leg or something. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I think the feature is stupid. I am not going to back over someone else. I always look behind me when backing unless I am postive no body else is around or I have to backup say a foot or two (pardon the pun). /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I'd love to disable that "feature", but I have no idea how and if I did, I think it would void the warranty. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Fred, I don't know about your model, but on my '95 Cub Cadet, there was a plug at the lower left back side of the engine and unplugging that let it mow forward and backwards. The location may be different, but I'll be if you find that and unplug it, you'll get the same result.

Hockeyhead, I have a Cub 1862 garden tractor and have put that thing through hell and back again. For 8 years it was the sole piece of mowing equipment I used on 4+ acres. Much of that land is very steep and the drive shaft pulled that Cub right up the hills, every, and I mean EVERY brand of belt drive I tested would not make it up the hills with the mower deck engaged. . . and only a few ever made it up the hills . . . but the Cub can mow right up the steepest slope.

And when I didn't have a bush hog I used the Cub to clear brush that was over the top of the hood, often taking down wild roses, raspberries, willow saplings and even the occasional native hawthorn. My biggest problem is popped tires, I have several hundred hawthorn trees on the property and the thorns go right through the front tires.

I use the Cub with a front mounted snowblower all winter, the thing has over 500 hours and, just like the old Timex commercials say, it takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

As for Cub & Yard Man. . . there are some similarities with their push mowers. The garden tractors are different designs than the Yard Mans and their CUTS are, or at least were, made by Mistubishi. And near as I can tell, there are some models of Cubs that are sold only at real tractor dealerships, I'm guessing that is their top of the line stuff? Anyway, I love my Cub. And when I went shopping for a CUT the first place I went to was the Cub/Kubota store. They had a 24hp Cub on the lot that I wanted but would not sell it without the FEL, and I was not in the market for another tractor with an FEL. They kept steering me to Kubota. I ended up with a New Holland. But in my mind, the choice was between the NH and the Cub.

Great little machines.

Cub Cadet has been owned by MTD since 1982 and is there preimer line. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif The sc621 with the wheel falling off is not a common problem. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Now the trimmer is a Mac if I'm not mistaken as we choose not to sell there line when we sell Stihl and Husqvarna. On most lawn mowers I do feel it is unfair to begrudge Cadet or Deere or who ever for engine problems in there tractors. Anyway you look at it they are built by Kawasaki,Honda,Kohler, and Briggs and the same from make to make of tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
