Was this truck freshly painted by your "good friend" for your wife's viewing pleasure?

Personally I'd leave the diff alone and simply use chains on the rear + weight in the box (like sand for when you need it).
I used a 6.2 GMC 3/4 ton 4 x 4 with a 7ft fisher for years with that combo.
Ultimate chains are Vbars every 3 side link. Simply awsome and probably beter than locked diff. Never got stuck, even on drives sloping downwards where I'd push down and back up the slope on hard ice.
Narrow tires are best as they cut down to the firm base rather than float. (like 205's rather than 235's)

No, The paint appears to be a few years old, I don't know the story behind it, but I would bet alcohal was involed in one way or another. The fact that it says ice cream in 2ft high leters on the side of the bed seems to irritate her more than the loud colors. I asked her if she was becoming lactose intolerant, she just shook her head and rolled her eyes :D

It has been a while since I chimed in on the project truck. It has sat relatively untouched for the past 6 or so monthes. I dug it out last week and have opened one big can of whoop ***** on it. I sectioned in a back half of a 77 frame by measuring 3 inches forward of the center of the front bed mount hole, then taking a 45 degree speed square and making a 45 degree diaganal mark on the truck and donor frame. I then clamped a scrap peice of flat stock to each rail against my 45 degree mark and used it as a guide to cut the frame with a torch. After some fine tuning the joint with a cut off wheel, I welded in the new rear section with 6011 1/8 rod on 90 amps, then plated the inside with scrap peices of the original rear frame section. Pics of the frame tocome tomorrow.

I aquired a freinds Ford 250 parts truck. He only wants the axles, drivetrain and front clip, the rest is mine. It is a 63,000 mile truck, with lots of good parts. Today I removed the bed, fuel tank, rear Dana 60, and carefuly burned off the factory rivets on all four spring hangers, leaving the springs attached to both hangers on each side. Tomorrow I will transfer both spring/hanger assemblies onto my newly sectioned frame. I snapped four pics of me unloading the parts truck off of the trailer after I stripped it, using my 270 Farmtrac. I am constantly amazed at what a tough little machine it is, It is a dwarf with the heart of a lion!!!!

I got the spring hangers bolted up today, and snapped some more pics of the frame repair, as well as one of the old frame section. I had hoped to get the axle back under it today, but ended up getting my for head split open by my 3 ft snap on pry bar when it slipped as I was trying to pry the rear spring hanger in to place to install the mounting bolts. After that, I decided to go in and call it a day.

This is the old rotted frame section I cut off

This is the parts frame after I cut out the rear section

This is the rear section welded joint

View from the rear of truck after frame has been repaired. It is only 1/16 out of square after all of the repairs!!!!!
