I would never eat any regular wild mushroom. I do not have the expertise for that; no at all in fact. But, I have heard said many times in a good many places that morels are the one type that anyone can recognize and eat without worry about poisoning. How true is this? I don't know. Would be nice to hear from an expert. The 'false morel' is likely the only thing you might confuse and even they can be eaten if well cooked. I have noticed several places recommend that you not even eat true morels raw.
And for the record, I'm not recommending that anyone else pick and eat morels on their own. Just because I did it and survived is no proof that its perfectly safe.
