It's not an overseas MTD, Lawn Flite was an early MTD product sold at farm stores in the USA. Your prize is circa early 80's, right around the time MTD bought Cub Cadet from International Harvester. It might look bad, but considering it's a nearly 30 year old cheap lawn tractor one could say it's a true survivor... LOL! A lot of collectors like those old opposed Briggs twins (although I don't know why), just the complete running engine alone would likely fetch more $ on E-Bay than selling the whole tractor there.

Yeah... I kinda figured something like that once I looked around some more. The only thing I really found on any Lawnflite in the USA was a different model than this one and was an '86 model.

Well... I'm now $16 into it!! Had to get a carb kit. Once it quits raining around here (might be a few days) I'll head back out there and put the carb back on along with a few other things. I think the little vacuum operated fuel pump on the carb was the problem. All should be well now since I put the kit in it and cleaned it up.

Well.... she's done. Ended up spending $90 but I've basically replaced or fixed anything that should give me any trouble. I had several things handy and some other stuff was given to me.... if I would have bought everything it would have cost considerably more. Long story short.... her name is "The Transaxle" .... and you can see that is the only word that wasn't painted over. I'll use it for pulling a trailer and just running around my property. I couldn't help myself to see what the bar tires would go through so I had to test it out. The last pic of it is me going through a mud hole and she made it with ease. This thing is an old beater and will be used accordingly.... the paint is only to keep it from rusting.... etc.. it is literally more for it's entertainment value than anything.

Looks like a MTD sold in Europe under different names. MTD, Uniropa, Bullcraft.

You might make the Guinness book of records as the first, one and only person ever................. to restore a Lawn Flite :) That is an amazing transformation from the first picture. When people see those bar tires and read that it is a genuine "Transaxle," they are going to run to the hills! Hey, put a cart on the back and it's as useful as a Gator, without the $6k price tag :) Nice work!

Thanks for the comments guys. Fordlords is probably right.... I am the only person to ever restore a Lawn Flite!! I really enjoyed messing with it.... now it's got me wanting to do a complete restore on a better quality machine. I think I might start looking for another project.... any suggestions?

I'd say there is no shortage of old iron to pick and choose from for your next project. Maybe a Johnny Popper might be a good choice as there should be plenty of them around to obtain and make one good unit.

I hope you post pics of your next restoration now that you have the bug.
