Oh man, good call on Yanmar. Didn't know they were out there. Will take a look at what they have for sure.

dad has a YT359 on order. The 235 loader strength might be marginal for a heavy bale. the difference between the 347 and the 359 is about 1.5" and $2000

Lots of small tractor's could handle a bale on the 3 point. If that is acceptable, shop smaller. I wonder if the max26 could get a bale off a trailer without another bale of the back as a counterweight

I doubt it! :) Think I'd want a 1526 for that.

So haven't had a chance to kick any more tires yet, did call around to get some idea on prices for L4701/L4060/L4760/MX4800.

Need to call my other nearby dealers but as expected Kubota runs a bit more than LS. Looks like ~28k for L4701, sounded like they could do a L4760 for ~32k but want to see the quote to make sure I heard him right.

One of the things I like about the Kubotas(aside from HST+ and other bells+whistles) is that weight wise(aside from the MX4800) they come in right where I'd like (3300-3600).

I really liked the LS XR4140, price-wise and capability-wise but it's just a tad heavy to haul on a 7k trailer with 5.5k capacity.

I'm going to be "odd-man-out" I guess.

I think you're looking at this in the wrong way on tractor choice. You know you're looking at moving and feeding round bales *forever* (or at least unless some of your horses get relocated). You need a tractor that's heavy. I do think your 40 hp target is realistic for your implement needs on that 5 acres. But moving (delivery), stacking, moving again and feeding round bales? Loader lift stats are important. So is tractor stability when moving one over semi-uneven ground. Weight is your friend for this task. Leaning towards a tractor less than 4k in weight is a mistake, in my opinion.

'Tis better to have to tell your friends/neighbors you can't bring your tractor to help because your truck/trailer won't pull it, than to dump a tractor on it's side because you had a wheel drop in a hole while feeding a round bale. Also, it may work as a barter system, ok you'll bring your tractor to help, if they come get it and return it with their (presumably larger) truck and trailer.

And this is from a guy that feeds round bales on a 4k dry tractor.

But 4k dry weight + FEL + filled rear tires + box blade = 7100 lb tractor in pic, moving a round bale. And that was *all* it wanted to handle. Going forward, I'll have a bigger rear ballast weight on next year.

P.S. You should *really think* about getting your rear tires filled if you're moving round bales.

So just because I'm thinking about a < 4k lb tractor doesn't mean I don't plan to have some serious ballast on it when I'm dealing with round bales. Keeping the tractor under 4k lets me haul it with what I have and a good size ballast box should even out FEL + round bale.

Honestly I don't get why everyone is down on having the *option* of helping out friends/family if the opportunity comes up. What's the point of having a tractor if you can't find reasons to use it?

Spent a bit of time up at the property with the Ford today and new tractor may have to happen sooner rather than later. The grass that has dried out is 3-4' high, the Ford + 4ft flail was having a heck of a time with it. Any of the stuff that was green would cut okay but anything dried would bind around the flail shaft and bog the tractor down. Not sure if the Ford wasn't running at 100% as I needed it give it more throttle than normal to hit 540rpm and oil pressure was showing higher than usual. Couldn't take more than a 1-2' swath of it without hitting issues.

Did get a 50' perimeter cleared around the house so if anything stupid happens on the 4th we'll at least be okay there. Still have an acre of the stuff to mow and it's only going to get thicker as the season goes on.

More I think about it the more I like the L4701 or L4760. I really liked the LS but the XR4140 is a tad large and XG3140 just doesn't match up against the L/Grand L. Also have the option of two different dealers up there vs one dealer hour+ away. Going to see if we can look at them in-person this week.

One thing I need to figure out is if they'll fit in a 7' garage w/ ROPS folded down. Was planning on having the storage in place first but looks like tractor might happen before then.

The two Kubotas will NOT fit through an 84" garage door with ROPS folded. I expect LS models are too tall as well.

If you have a Kioti dealer close, give them a look. I just bought a ck3510se, which sounds like it might be about the size/weight you're looking for. They also have a ck4010, which I believe is the exact same frame size. The 3510 is just under 3k lbs bare weight. With FEL and loaded tires, you're well over 4k lbs, probably 4500ish at least.

I shopped around most of the major brands, and had it narrowed down to the Yanmar and Kioti. I really wanted to choose the Yanmar (can't go wrong with a Yanmar engine)...but there were a couple small things I didn't like on the Yanmar tractor. Kioti beat them on pricing by a pretty good margin too. Made it an easy choice for me. The fact that Kioti's "SE" model is only 1600 dollars more than the economy basic model, helped sway me too. The SE is basically all of the options in one package. (floor mat, cruise control, linked pedal, tilt wheel, toolbox, 2 rear remotes, telescoping lower links, side mirrors, nicer fit & finish to the operator station, and probably a few more things I'm forgetting). I'd compare the SE package to what the XR's are at LS, in terms of the added options.

I don't have my tractor yet (it'll be here thursday). So without any seat time, take my advice with a grain of salt, but I'd definitely give them a look if you can.
