Buying Advice Looking at a MF 240, was split open.

Hey y'all,

I'm looking at a used 1996 MF 240 with about 1200 hrs. It is 2x4, no FEL and a wide rear end. It was split open, presumably to replace the clutch. I'm waiting for a call back from the repair shop for confirmation on that. The dealer's asking price is $7500, no implements. Seems a little below average...What do you think?

Anybody had problems with the clutch? Why else might it have been split open? My understanding is these are fairly problem free. What are some common problems with MF240?

I'm looking to buy my first tractor, some sort of compact tractor to do primary tillage in my 2 ac market garden. I plan on using a 60" tiller, disk harrow, 2 bottom plow and small chisel (not sub-soiler). Any other tractors to recommend?

The MF 240 is a GREAT tractor. Verry few problems with it. I would think if it is split the they are replacing the clutch. The only other reason i can think to split it there is maybe a seal.

if they replaced the clutch then that is why it was splitt.as for the price $7500 is top end for a MF 240.
