ChrisJ,

Your profile isn't completed so I've no idea where you are. Surely there's a Massey dealer near you? You can probably get owner's manual, etc. there. Congratulations on your tractor.

ChrisJ,
If you want a PDF copy of the spec. for your tractor, I can send you a copy. I will have to know if it is standard or hydro. If you do, I will need your e-mail addy.also.

Chris you asked about RFM That tractor can handle a 6' if that's what will fit your property 5' may be more appropriate easier to negotiate around and such, then you have to decide whether or not you want rear discharge or side discharge depending on your mowing pattern ,personally I like rear discharge, grass wouldn't have to go from one end of deck to other end to get out from under mower perhaps leaving a row of freshly mown grass or if its damp it could ball up in clumps out of the chute (not very attractive)I'm sure rear discharge has its own troubles with damp grass like getting thrown to one side before exiting at rear causing a line or row also(moral of story mow when its dry)...
Then you have to decide on brand of mower landpride$,bushog$,excellent mowers but exspensive, first choice, kingkutter, and more than I can think of right now.I have an older 6' kingkutter that mows fine And havn't had much trouble with it,it has one belt for all blades stout deck & spindles ,wheel & axle could be better(bushing on bolt w/grease).I would like a new one but not ready yet..You'll just have to get out there and kick some tires and pick one you think will fit your situation best.Bearings are better than bushings if you can get them except when your replacing them /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif$$ but they should last longer /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Good luck REDRYDER...Mark

Thanks for the info, the tractor is not hydro (9x3) and I live in New Hampshire. A 5' mower will probably do it on my 4 acre lot. This forum is quite informational, it helped me decide to go after this tractor(that and three or four people who own MF's). Plus I couldn't beat the deal, about 40% off area dealers price.

WOW, IS THAT PRICE OF $10,900 WITH A LOADER? THAT SEEMS LIKE A HECK OF A DEAL FOR THAT TRACTOR. I'D LOVE TO FIND A 1428 RIGHT OUT OF THE SHOW ROOM FOR THAT PRICE. IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE THERE IS A GREAT DEAL ON THE 1428 WITH A LOADER, PLEASE SEND ME ALL THE DETAILS.
