Comparison Looking at buying new tractor, LS vs Kubota

Dealers every 30 miles would be nice. There are only two kubota dealers that I know of in Alaska. There are alot of Kubota tractors up here so that says something for Kubota.

Our LS dealer is the only tractor dealership up here that answers phone calls on the weekends and opens his doors late at night if you need something in a pinch. He is moving LS tractors all over the state and tractors up here get used all year, 24/7, sun or snow. Kubota has proven their ability up here and in the last few years LS has been doing the same.

Both solid tractors, but LS was the better deal for me.

As far as tractors go they are like trucks. Ford's, Chevy/GMC, Dodge will all pull an equipment trailer when properly equipped, but each has it's unique benefits. My Duramax, in my opinion, is the best rig out there, but I have buddies with Cummins and Powerstrokes who would rather push theirs than drive mine.

Fortunately we live in a country where we have the freedom to choose where, when and what kind of tractors we buy. Contrary to what the current condition of our country looks like, I hope we stay that way and have the ability to pass this freedom on to our children and grandchildren.

Larry, while there was a failure with the draw bar bracket on the LS P7010, it very well could have been from abuse in that particular instance. I believe that LS is still currently the best bang for the buck. I AM NOT saying that it is the best tractor, just the best tractor for a certain amount of money. ;)
On paper yes. It may be that they have engineered in a high capability margin on everything, but somehow forgot the drawbar. Or maybe they havnt, and it is just one of many weaknesses that will show with firm usage. I sure dont know ... but seeing so basic a part that was shortchanged begs a hard look overall, unless you plan on babying the tractor.

Really?...really? I will be the last to say that any tractor is perfect but I would not begin to say you would need to baby this tractor. That's just stirring the pot to smell the *****.
It is built extremely rugged. I'm sure you will enjoy your LS tractor. I sure have really come to appreciate mine. I bought it just in time to clear major tree damage and debris removal from 2 tornadoes at my farm in this past year. It has been extremely reliable and durable and packs a punch when it comes time to work. I have buddies with bigger HP major brand tractors and they have been duly impressed with this tractor.
The good news about the tornadoes....got plenty of firewood for the next couple of years.

Thanks Dwight. I am hoping for the best and praying for the rest. No tractor will last forever but I know a little bit about machinery and the LS is no doubt a solid rig. That being said everything has it's limitations. I won't be using my LS to push large trees over, but then again I am not using my 1150 dozer to pick up round bales.

Reading the thread on Kubota not honoring their warranty.

Our John Deere dealer stuck us on a warranty issue and we bought it there, but I avoid the dealer not the brand. All makes have poor dealerships.

That is a dealer issue, I had the same problem with a Ford dealership in 1995 when I moved. They didn't want to work on my Windstar because I didn't buy it from them.

You might want to take a close look at general ruggedness. The drawbar on at least some LS tractors is not fastened well. The bracket that holds it to the tractor has been reported to fail. Not a problem on the Mahindra. There may be other such inadequacies that will show when they are worked hard.

Spyderlk,

I have read one post about a drawbar bracket breaking
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/ls-tractors/230312-broke-my-tractor-today.html , and from the post it sounds like he was really stressing it beyond what it was designed for.

Do you know of any other LS tractor drawbar breakage or is this the one you are refering to?

Why does it seem every peaceful tractor comparison thread turns into brand bashing? Spyder, I'd be very surprised If you ever drove a LS. LS has a solid reputation. They wouldnt be selling tractors all over if they weren't. And especially for the price. As for the shot at the Kubota dealer, I hope anybody, driving any color tractor knows their not immune. I have a slight green bias, but I have a high respect for all brands. They all have their ups and downs. A lemon can be found in any of them. Every brand makes a good tractor. We have to find the one thats best for us and not hate on the one eat for someone else:thumbsup:

Anyone read the post about the drawbar failure. Pulling a fully loaded dumb truck from a drainage ditch. Wow, not surprised on that one...

I though Gary's analysis of the engineering of the drawbar was that is was designed to break before doing any damage to the tractor housing. In other words, repair or replace a fairly inexpensive part before damaging a very expensive part. Sounds like good engineering to me.
