Hi, I'm new here and have been lurking around reading the posts. I have a level 2.5 acres (1.75 pasture) and a 750' gravel drive. I dont need a mower but do need a FEL, box scraper and eventually a tiller. I currently have a '53 Ferguson w/FEL (a royal pain to steer). Anything with power steering will be great. I dont like the Hydro pedal the Kubotas have. Looked at the JD 2210 and the 4010. Any info on the 4010 would help. The local Kubota/JD dealer said that there has been a problem with the Hydro tranny on the 4010! is this true? There is enough info on the 2210 at this forum.
Thanks
Kevin

There's been NO mention of any hydro problem with the 4010 on this forum in the year I've been on it. I've, like another 4010 forum user, moved lots of gravel with the 410 loader on my 4010. In my case, it was 25 tons. Think the other user moved even more. Some people pooh pooh the 4010 with 410 loader, that it won't lift the 850# that the 410 is rated for. Well, I've filled the bucket to the brim many times. It needs about 300# on the 3 pt plus filled tires to not be a bit tippy with the bucket full of gravel. Most of my loads were down my hill and turning a bit on the hill at times (carefully).

One user with a 4010 mentioned the hydro giving out when turning full steering lock. Think they fixed that on mine. The steering gets kinda gapy if it's fully loaded and I turn too fast or near its full lock. This happens rarely though.

With the LX4 cutter, it has plenty of power. I tried it out even when very new on my neighbor's meadow that hadn't been mowed. Couldn't even tell the LX4 was back there. It could easily drive a 5' bush hog. The weight might start to become a problem with a bigger hog hanging out there though.

Haven't used a tiller, as a friend gave me his 50 year old soil ripper off his JD M that is also 18 hp. It pulled it fine, as it did with 2 huge 16" disc hillers mounted on the bar in place of the chisel plows. Attached is a picture of the ripper. I used it as 3 pt weight during much of the gravel moving. Used the LX4 for about 6 tons' worth. Not quite enough weight on the 3 pt (probably about half its 400#) from the LX4 to not be slightly tippy.

I'll take my cruise control over the 2210's cup holder any day, too.

Doubt the 2210 has the lift height to handle the soil ripper nor this beast on the same 2x2 bar.

To get an idea of what the lift height is on the 2210 3pt check out the links to my pics. I am using a full size PHD and that subsoiler I have is the full size KK. Also...the next time you are at the dealer have him set a 2210 and 4010 side by side and measure the difference. The 2210 gets at least 2" higher lift at the pins over the 4010. But is about the much less that the 4110.

I guess that just about settles that. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Weather finally cleared/warmed up enough to use the 4110. Managed to level out a bunch of frost heaves in a wet area being reclaimed near a lake and in a dry wooded area that I am making a fire break. Also moved 15 to 20 yards of greatly decomposed 10 year old tree stumps/branches. Posting this here because I went through similar (2210/4010/4110) decision. Results:
--The 410 loader did fine with the very heavy, water logged wood pulp. Only issue was probably related to break out force. There were times when the lift (and curl) would stall when trying to move clumps of matted together mass. I eventually got it all----just required a little back & forth/up and down
-- I was running through knee high brush/grass often. The extra ground clearance was useful. Think I’d have have to rig up a skid plate or shroud of some kind to use 2210 I had for these chores.
-- Draft arm turnbuckles needed to be unbolted and readjusted to shorten them up. As delivered, I couldn’t shorten them up enough to preclude arms from rubbing rear wheel with BB attached. (lateral movement)
So the big question is whether or not the move to the 4110 was worth the additional $3K. Especially after I get done with the one-time stuff. Answer is TBD.
There was a discussion a few pages back about a 4010 and mower deck power that was interesting.
And, for what its worth, here’s my (emphasis on MY, as in for my application) list of 2210 vice 4110 pros and cons
2110 plus
- ROPS lower but fixed (lower than 4110 foldable in upright position)
- Fuel filter/shut readily accessible
- Longer throttle lever
- Price
Limitations
- Ground clearance
- Transmission cooling fan exposed
- Hyd oil filter exposed
- Harder to access transmission screen
- Routing of snow blower chute adjustment cable close to exhaust
- Mid PTO shaft at high angle to front quick tach mount.
- No temp gauge
4110
Plus
- Dual brakes petal/brake steer
- 3 point rockshaft stop
- Bigger tires
- Metal fenders
- Full cat 1---
- Better hyd flow/FEL capacity
- Hyd filter is tucked away; cooler not exposed.
- Can handle weight of 4 foot forks and still be able to move snowmobiles
Concerns
- Price
- Fuel petcock /filter hidden behind panel
- Mower deck retention set up clunky
- ROPS has to be folded to fit my 83in garage door opening
- No temp gauge

If I didn’t have the frost heaves &brush and snowmobile movement to deal with I’d have kept the 2210. Great to have a choice—just figure out what you’re requirements are and how deep the pocket book is. Good luck

Hey, Deere X475guy, those are some good pic's. Do you need the wheel weights? or could you have the tires filled? Last question, local dealer has JD 2210 w/fel for $11495 and a JD 4010 Hydro w/fel for $10995. What is the good buy?

kcarver,

I think I would be doing some test driving; perhaps your dealer would even let you do that at your home. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif BTW, those prices sound about right what with price increases etc.

 / Looking at JD 2210, 4010 #10
kcarver141, thanks. I have tons more. BTW all the rocks you see piled there the 2210 did. I had the tires filled when I bought the tractor new a little less than a year ago. I had to move 40 yards of wet sand and the extra weight from the wheel weights helps to ballast it. I now have the tiller hanging off the back so I probably could loose the weights. I have 265 hours on this now and most of those hours were put on doing loader and ground engaging work. Someday all the heavy work will be done and I will be putting a lot less hours on per year and most of it will be mowing and bush hogging.

I think those prices are right in line with todays price of steel. I gave $12999.00 out the door for mine with the loader and 62C mower deck.

You do have more ground clearance with the 4010. For me the plus stopped there.

Those prices are cheaper than what I got from 2 different JD dealers last October. My 4010 cost $13,600 for hydro, FEL and LX4. The LX4 was $1,000. The 4010 was $300 less than a 2210 and $2,000 less than a 4110.

Ralph,

Most of us realize your pricing numbers are slanted, both geographially, and towards whatever inventory your dealer needed to move. I don't personally know the sales totals for each Deere model, although I'll bet some of the other posters can to verify them; but there's a heck of a lot more 2210's being sold today than there are 4010's. Why? I'll let you answer this.

But, whatever the number's are, and though my perspective may disagree with your "that of your inside the industry views", I'm sorry to say that it is you that has brought these responses on; my intentions were never to knock the 4010, nor were they to wave the flag of the 2210. However, for some time you have continued to denegrate the performance of the 2210; while at the same time elevating that of the 4010. Even worse, oftentimes this was accomplished using incorrect performance data.

These are the facts. They may be unsettling. However, they are the facts.

Past that, several comments from your last post require redress: "Those prices are cheaper than what I got from 2 different JD dealers last October. My 4010 cost $13,600 for hydro, FEL and LX4. The LX4 was $1,000. The 4010 was $300 less than a 2210 and $2,000 less than a 4110."

Very nice. Anecdotal comments. And just what they are: annecdotal. Many of us, for whatever reason, have been able to negotiate better deals. Therefore, why don't we all just agree and leave it at it, that Green has done a good job at marketing their products to us, in the process figuring clever ways of propping up that image up after the fact. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

So you can see, this can go on all night. If you continue to bash other tractors and tractors that other posters have chosen, you will continue to stir the wrath of others on this forum. It's your choice. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Just took delivery of a new 2210 with 62C mower deck. It's been very painful with this perpetual smile on my face. I'm quite please with this decision so far.

I looked into the 4010 and 2210 before deciding. It's like looking at two awsome tractors and picking which best fits your needs. The 2210 has a much friendlier setup to support the 62C deck. It also fits better in my garage. The engine has more HP but the tires are smaller. I particularly liked the fact that the rear fenders were molded plastic (very strong and will never rust). Both units have the ability to do a specific task a bit better than the other. It all depends if you'll ever use this "better" feature. For me, the 2210 performed better that the 4010 for MY tasks. I also looked at and drove the following:

Case DX22E
Cub Cadet 5000 Series
Cub Cadet M60 Tank
Steiner 415
Steiner 230
Ventrac 4200
Kobota BX series
John Deere 4000 series
John Deere 2000 series
Exmark ZTR
Kobota ZTR

This was a year long search that brought me to the 2210. I'm very pleased and it does just what I though it would do and more. Would not have made any different decision.

Hey, JDFanatic...I didn't read Ralph's post as bashing the 2210. I read plenty of posts by Ralph and others who are just proud tractor owners, and have a need to validate their reasoning for their purchase...like my posts. Having owned both a 2210 and, now, a 4110, I don't mind a proud owner differentiating their purchase with a nearby model. While I disagree with some of the comparisons, It's all still in the family /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I do feel the 4110 is the "sweet spot" for my needs. The 2210 had everything I needed, but i've never been known for be happy with that. Here's my best tool at its best:

1st.... bigpete... Why did you tear up that perfect driveway??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I would be happy if mine only had one crack!
The person I bought the house from had it paved 4 years ago. I wish he paved my road too. That would make all the winter months easier and not too mention I would not be grading in the summer. VT is all about dirt roads and this is my contribution I guess.

As for JDFanatic, I am onboard with him. For the last year I have had subtle put downs of the 2210 over and over. I totally agree that each tractor has a place in the heart of the right individual. I just feel that some people try to steer newbie's to their machine just to build up a following. When comparing machines they should be "Fair and Balanced" (sorry FOX News, don't sue me too for using that line).

Again, Why oh Why did you tear up that driveway. I think my heart skipped a beat.

I'm not bashing the 2210. Came very close to buying one. Prefer to have cruise control instead of a cup holder and wanted the dual brakes and higher ground clearance for my rough property. Glad I bought the 4010 and saved the $300. It bought me a toothbar, which I've hardly used though.

For MM mowing or for going a bit faster with a tiller, the 2210 works better (think the tiller is maybe the only tool that you could possibly use that extra hp on).

How you going to get rid of that pile out of curiosity? these days land fills give especially diffcult times and question all dumps, asphalt in particular...

I ripped up most of my drivway using my toothbar -however the pro's took the asphalt away -thank God

Hey Ducati, I ripped up quite a bit of asphault from my driveway and loaded it in my pickup and took it to a Waste Management landfill and paid by the pound to get rid of it. It ended up costing me like $ 60 to get rid of 2000 lbs. of asphault (if I remember quickly /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
