There was a 4WD Ford 5000 advertised on our local Craigslist a couple of weeks ago. The picture looked good, but I am leery of Craigslist. We don't have a 4WD or FEL equipped tractor on the farm where my brothers live, one NAA, two 600's, Case 995 and an old back hoe that doesn't run, so some day we would kind of like to get one. I am not brand fixated on tractors, but do have an affinity for the older Fords.

Well, I see your point with the "maybe you don't need that much tractor", but we will be intensively farming this area - cropping 2x a year, spreading manure and cover cropping as well, so I think the tractor will see a lot of use. I think some of the spaders I've been looking at need 50hp or more, and it definitely seems better to have a bit of a power cushion. I'm leaning more towards the 50hp end than the larger tractors, if just for fuel economy reasons. This is really helping me narrow my search down.. I appreciate all the comments

i would get a get a john deere 5000 series .two worth while options are power reverser and cast rear wheels.i really like blue ones only if they have ford on them .i would also recommend the mccormick or caseih c and cx series. these are the ones i would bet the farm on between 50 and 90 pto horsepower.
