I say 2wd should be illegal (in jest since I own 1) cause the minor incremental cost is way worth more than it costs. There are applications for 2wd but 4wd is so much more productive and effective.

Guessing if you have a 40 hp JD that's worn out, it is (1) probably old-school and makes 40 pto hp at 1800 engine rpm, and (2) weighs over 5000 pounds bare. It might take an M7040 4wd limited slip to get similar tractive ground engagement.

I would agree that old school 40hp is hard to compare to current tractors but with 4wd does make everything work better, just remeber you can't replace old fashion pounds on the ground for plowing. I say that most with they would have 4wd @ some point. Wish you luck in your search.
